Uncle Tupelo - No Depression. Are there any fans out there?
I got my hands on the reissue only a couple of years ago and love it. Great driving music.
The lyrics are far too christian for my taste:
"Oh, fear the hearts of men are failing
For these are latter days, we know
The Great Depression now is spreading
God's word declared it would be so"
...
I'm going where there's no depression
To a better land that's free from care
I'll leave this world of toil and trouble
My home's in heaven
I'm going there"
Ya'll know good luck with that.
Well, it is a traditional song. I find it incredibly sad and affecting. It's about death.
@Palindromeman I am glad you like it and yes the musicians sound great, but this song is about a wish to escape living, to go to a better place, heaven...and I an't going
@cava Copy that. What bothers me is that it is as relevant today as it was in the 30s.
