SCOTUS to-do list:
Your list is no lie!
This decision removes the constitutional right to abortion in USA. States can now totally ban abortions.
Some states already have laws in place that will kick in soon that ban them completely.
Some are planning on banning abortions immediately after fertilization.
Many states are planning on having no exceptions in place for women who are carrying babies as a result of incest or rape, or even if the pregnancy constitutes a threat to the mother’s life. This is bad, so a raped woman may be forced in some states to carry to term irrespective of when she found out she is pregnant Otherwise she will face criminal charges? Ffs
No-one has the right to a woman's womb or her body. This xtianity shoved in your face! like, here take it, whether you like it or not!
Even worse, is that the judgment lays the theoretical and jurisprudential basis for going after other established decisions and rights, including the right to contraception, and gay marriage. Justice Clarence Thomas said so explicitly in the majority opinion.
Your Supreme Court has no term limits and there is a strong (6-3) majority in composition, and the conservatives play dirty (like blocking a clearly appropriate candidate while holding our for a power swing) to ensure that majority. Most are under 70. Chances are crusty old religious conservatives have a hard lock on that body of government for a good long time now.
The supreme court decision in USA on prohibiting abortion is indeed a sad day for your country - going backwards! Now that the implications of this judgment are spelled out fully! Appalling!
They've got an eye on contraception too but most importantly returning voting to white men who own real property, if not outright, at least making it as difficult as possible for anyone else.
"Oh, Robert E. Lee, where are you now that your country has great need of you?"
@anglophone I am in favor of Texas and the SE states seceding from the union. The rest of the country would be better off.
Have they not already made voting as difficult as possible ? I have seen photos of mile long lines outside your polling stations.
@Fernapple The red states have, things as obvious as having only one polling station in large, poor, minority district that tends to vote blue. In my blue state, we've had mail in voting for years and nobody complains about it. My state is also thriving so I am encouraging people to come to Colorado. Most people here are from somewhere else, everyone is welcome!
