As I am looking at my now closed business I have the time to think about out pearls of wisdom from my little venture. Most noticably, the people with means are abandoning the city and moving to northshore, which is troublesome for itself in that you have new money comming in and the old local money fighting over who is going to be the chief crook. Life will keep getting tougher by the day going forward. The days of plenty are gone forever.... And yet this life is the ONLY game in town. We have to enjoy the ride one way or another. Sorry things didn't work out. Recharge and come back any way you see fit. Good luck
I had an art gallery in a small city for about 2 years. In the first year it won an award and it was always very busy on openings. I got rave reviews for the curating of the shows. I had teachers bring in students for art discussions. Artists loved exhibiting with me and people always wanted to know what I was doing next. It was wonderful and I learned a lot but never could make enough money for it to be viable. There just wasn't a huge market for sales and I didn't have deep enough pockets to fund it. But while it lasted it was great and I met many people who are still my good friends.
