It seems to me that the people on this site know the Bible, Quran etc. better than those that follow their "teachings", religiously. And yet we're a bunch of agnostics/atheists. Coincidence?
I was raised both Jehovah Witness and Catholic, I went to church five times a week from birth to 16 years old. My change of belief came from the observation of my time studying the offerings of these two very distinct but claiming to be the one true faith.
I went the traditional Church, Sunday School, Bible School, and Youth Group route which is why I started questioning around the age of 10 - 12. Questioning led to "trying on" other churches and a lot of reading. My religious friends are constantly surprised (amazed) at how much I know about the Bible and religion in general. I always felt like there was something wrong with me because I didn't fit in anywhere. That is, until I discovered the Unitarian Universalist Church, which not only allowed me to think for myself, but encouraged everyone to do the same. There are no UU churches near me now, but their philosophy of openness has a permanent place in my heart. They even accept agnostics and atheists ! I now consider myself a lapsed Unitarian which is about as loose as one can get. I'm happy and I'm home! YEA
