It still sounds weird to my ears to have news reports talking about prayers for someone (in this case, the Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin) being universally expressed. Of course I wish him well, but prayers not being part of it.

Another bit of irrationalism coming to the fore, some sort of numerology coincidence occurred. I believe the Bills QB mention how it's been 3yrs-3mos since the last time the Bills had a touchdown run back on kickoff (they had two in fact). Hamlin is #3. The QB practically called it miraculous.

Wonder if the Bills will go all the way and the Hamlin injury/recovery will be the dominant narrative throughout.

A replay/continuation of the canceled game is not needed the NFL decided.

But I'm curious, would Hamlin watching an exciting game by the Bills today be a good thing or bad thing for his heart? Serious question.

Seems pre-game prayer circles are the new thing in the NFL.

Prayer works. Guess it's time to shut this place down.

You people give us a bad name with your ridiculous extremism at a time like this.

What are babbling about? I wasn't telling those praying fuck their prayers. I was saying being told everyone is praying for him strikes me as incredibly presumptuous.

On a related note and also in the news yesterday was a teen pilot who credited "God's intervention" for not hitting anyone /anything during his emergency landing.

Some perspective.

It's interesting (and true) when he said 5-10 years ago play would have likely continued. I also made an observation in another forum that other sports/entertainment events have continued in the wake of a death or catastrophic accident (mostly motorsports, but I think maybe rodeo and a few others). I wasn't advocating for the game to continue as some indignantly assumed, just that there were other precedents. I feel for the most part the moneyed interests would act like the execs in Rollerball if they thought they could get away with it. Look how in the past how they've downplayed concussions or the toll artificial turf was taking on the players.

PRAYER - the same as doing nothing but with extra steps.

Although I understand that people want to express care and concern. Some even believe that prayer works and as such feel they're bringing a mighty power to bear.

I'm still a bit pissed off by the religiousity of his family and the team.

For what it's worth, here's some anti "thoughts and prayers" memes.

Please feel free to copy and share them?

Spread the word, please?

So it was the timing of the hit...not his genetic condition?

Hard to believe.

Let's hope the managers let him play again.

I doubt they will.

@Robecology - I have no idea, though various media outlets were quick to say what is was (or might have been)... and more importantly to declare what it was not, or couldn't have been. I saw the phrase "anti-vaxx ghouls" used in multiple instances.
