I have been dating a Christian woman for about a month. Tonight she asked me if I was an atheist. Of course I'm honest and said I was. She explained her experience in the past was atheists are mean and have an agenda. I reassured her that we are all just people and feel emotions like all other people but we don't believe in a higher power. She also wanted to know what I think happens when I die. Well we just end. I can tell her mind is blown. We shall see..
For some reason many people think only the super religious have ethics. You can educate your friend. There is such a focus on the end of human life, birds, turtles, fish, dogs don't have souls? Why did god create half a million different species of beetles? Could god have been an insect?!
How Christian is she? Go to church once a week or more? Wears crucifixes and has religious paraphernalia around the house and office? Or just someone who thinks there must be "something" to explain beauty and awe, "why we're here," and "what happens when we die?"
What made her suspect you're an atheist? It's curious that she phrased it that way and not "do you believe in god?"
She often wears cricifixes when we go out. But until she googled my name and found out somewhere that I'm an atheist religion never came up. I know she adores me. We will see where it goes.
@Medicdad At least you'll change her mind about atheists being mean.
@carlyhorton well I'm pretty awesome. =)
I would never date a religious man, even back when I was still in the church.
I usually found them to be poorly educated, have low intelligence, patriarchal, no hobbies, no interests, and zero sense of humor.
You obviously associate with the wrong kind of people!
@Athos No, I avoid them.
Maybe I'm dumb but it's a good challenge. lol
