Would it be unethical to wine and dine an accountant and whisper sweet nothings into his/her ear about doing my taxes for free and then, mission accomplished, dumping the person?
I would do the dumping politely and kindly. Heck, I would even buy the wine and dine.
Haha! I do my own taxes and take myself out for wining and dining to celebrate. I use Turbo Tax, which walks me through everything, and one small rule must have changed because I was able to take a bigger deduction this year. Yippee! That's something to celebrate. Still have to pay a heck of a lot, so I hope my tax dollars will be used well!
@Gwendolyn2018 Not sure what a smartphone has to do with TurboTax. I download the software to my computer and do it that way. Nothing's on my phone.
I'm sure whatever you use is less drama than sweet talking someone to do it for you, haha! I hate crunching all the numbers myself, but by the end of the exercise, it's a game for me to find every last deduction suggested to me.
I would not do it, but you gotta do you.
@Gwendolyn2018 I did my taxes done and hated every moment of it, especially when I had to pay. BUT as I've been stashing some savings in some accounts that pay good interest, next year I will pay out of the savings. I should have been doing that last year, I might have and forgot what the plan was. Since I named one of those accounts I should be able to remember it next year. I named the account Necessary Evil. My CU lets you name your accounts, and in theory I am the only one who will see it. Unless I die and then my kid will have to get into my accounts, and she will just laugh.
@Gwendolyn2018 I hear that!! I use Turbo tax, and I broke it so I had to call the online help. That was not a fun process. It amazes me that I work for a financial institution, I hate math!! But my job is mostly explaining concepts, if something has to be figured I don't have to do that math, or I tell my callers I could be wrong and they should check my math. I am not a teacher, but part of my job is educating my callers on what we're doing and what they should be doing. I spoke with an 80+ woman who was paying hella interest charges from cash advances she took from her credit cards 5 years ago. She has never paid the card to zero, so the balance transfers have never been paid off. As a people we are woefully ignorant of how credit works, or how banks/credit unions work.
