Female genital mutilation is nothing short of an atrocity. It doesn't matter to me whether it is cultural or religious. The male equivalent would be cutting off the glans... Until the ones ultimately behind this are willing to have that done to them then maybe I'd that an acceptable practice. And you know damn well they wouldn't go for it.

Not until that culture totally de=links those blrutal practice from their religion, and is willing tho show how vicious such abuse is.

FGM is not as much of a problem in those countries as in sub-Saharan Africa and it is definitely a cultural issue rather than a religious one. More recently it has been seen in Syria as a affectation by D'eash. This has been widely condemned by most Islamic leaders. [gh.bmj.com]
Forced marriage is more common in majority muslim countries but also in other closed sects like the Frumm Jewish communities, Jo Wits and Brethern communities. Forced marriages also affects males and I have personally cared for many male victims of this practice.
Rape is ubiquitous and needs to end as do acid attacks, they are cruel attempts to assert power. Women are not as safe as men, anywhere. This is a challenge that we need to address. We simply cannot sit on our laurels because we live in the west.

No need to be pessimist. Women rights are improving due to media coverage of violence and awareness. You have mixed several crimes into one sentence but reasons behind them differ - from religious and cultural such as FGM / forced marriages and generic worldwide problem such as rape.

Just take example of Saudi Arabia; after being singled out and shamed they have allowed their women to drive and in 2018, women above 25 can now travel to Saudi Arabia alone (Saudi women can't leave lol) (https://www.khaleejtimes.com/region/saudi-arabia/women-above-25-can-now-travel-to-saudi-arabia-alone).

India got major revamp of rape laws after worldwide negative publicity of unfortunate events that happened last year.

Changes so ingrained in mindset of populations will take a couple of generations to improve. Atleast trend seems to be up not down.
