All religions I know have some absurd elements, tenets the believer has to believe and reproduce in public in order to show that he or she is a true member of this religion. Christians have to believe (and confess publicly) that God created this world out of nothing; that God became a human being, born by a virgin, and so on... These absurd tenets serve as a litmus test to see who is a true believer, one of "us".

I have wondered in recent years why so many rational and educated people feel compelled these days to publicly repeat and regurgitate absurdities like "some women have a penis and testicles" or "a man can get pregnant," and finally it dawned on me that these are absurd tenets that serve as a litmus test to find out who is a real Progressive Liberal, a true member of this quasi-religion called the "Social Justice movement." Profess this nonsense and you are one of "us"; deny it or doubt it and you are a heretic to be ostracized, pilloried and socially killed.
(Ask J.K. Rowling, but this witch turned out to be "too big to cancel"; many others have been less fortunate, ask Kathleen Stock)

Sure, the vast majority of those who affirm that "some men can menstruate" know very well that this is as absurd as "God became man and died for our sins", but they also know that this is the price they have to pay for remaining a respected member of their community and to fly under the radar of the new inqueersition with has the power to destroy lives.

Does Thibaud ever join in productive discussions, or just gently tap the occasional hornet’s nest?

Gender alteration (bottom) is only done after extensive counseling as it should be. That is irreversible.

Top surgery is extreme but at least cosmetically reversible to a certain extent.

But we already allow people to engage in extensive and repeated plastic surgery even to them trying to look alien and add horns or split their tongues or other things and there is no moral outcry about it.

This is a really good point I hadn't thought of.

According to a few trans man top surgery I saw interveiwed , the breast removal is also irreversible. Adverage cost for complet transgender operations is $125,000 trans men and $140,000 for trans women, hope it is not coming out of my taxes, if I can help. It may already be coming out of our taxes, that will change some people's mind.

@Castlepaloma How would hacking out a couple sacks of fluid be any different on a man than a woman? Implants fail on women too.

It is a completely cosmetic procedure.

And I have known women who go for elective double mastectomy because of family history of cancer.

Should that be prevented because men like to look at breasts? Men seem to think they get the authority on everything else about a woman's body.

Do you believe that there are just complete male and complete female human beings born? It is far more complex than everyone being an XX or XY. Genitals can be ambiguous more often than most people realize.
Of course, at this point in medical science, a human baby can only fully develop in a human uterus. But that person with a uterus may have brain chemistry and personality and urges of a male.
During a pregnancy, I would imagine any hormone therapy for facial hair and the like would be temporarily ceased.

Religion and the world of gender pronouns is as opposites as any group can be. I still hear some christian saying, there was no Adam and Steve . And it's mainly religious countries and 80 of them which have made LGBT illegal. Transgender is more of a North American absurdity. Sweden who started the whole thing,, has banned puberty blockers for children. It's the Government and the pharma corporations drugs for life profiteering behind it. Because in 15 years trans clinics have boomed 300 times. How can a man have a baby, any more than a jewish virgin women have a baby. It's far beyond my logic and understanding.of bio organisms. Politicians don't even know the definition of what a woman is ? And Politicians are pushing laws around them everywhere.

One thing religious folks say when confronted about lack of evidence for an existence of any so called ‘god’ is that’s what ‘faith’ is all about.

I regard faith as deserving to be thoroughly mocked. I also regard the refusal to address any of the logical fallacies in their claims as being equally deserving of being mocked.

It is my experience that mental defectives can become extremely irate when they have their absurdities pointed out to them.

@anglophone That’s totally true!!

The absurdity with the Xian religion for me begins with having to accept as fact that there's an invisible magical superbeing who lives in the sky. It just gets more ridiculous from there.

How does anyone believe shit like that??

I know right

Answer: such people suffer from having beliefs - having an evidence-based world view is beyond their cognitive capability.

You're creating another "false equivalence." There is none between a belief in Christian myths and a redefinition of "god" as an "unknowable something," on one hand, and a true transsexual and the current misuse of that term.by some people.
So, a fundamentalist Christian criticizes transsexualism entirely, and an ideologically-driven progressive extremist might insist every young person who wants to change his or her gender can do so simply by stating it is so.
In both cases, there is a plausible, legitimate viewpoint, and a distorted, extreme position. In both cases, the difference is between rationality and an irrational twisting of facts to adhere to a predetermined belief system.

You feel there is a quasi-religion called the "Social Justice movement." I'm a Progressive Liberal and have never thought of any such thing. I also know that men do not get pregnant nor menstruate and women do not have a penis. Many today are pushing hard for us to believe a 6 year old who says he is a girl and immediately cut off his penis and give him hormones. This would be the absurdity both in the doing and believing. Someone this young cannot know what they want. I'm at a loss as to seeing what religion has to do with all this. Is there a new "inqueersition" that is destroying lives or is this too just all political? It sounds like something out of American politics to me.

That is a right wing fear campaign to think there is a campaign to perform gender surgeries on children. What happens is just welcoming their exploration and allowing them to change clothing or hairstyle and things like that.

6

I mean, I call myself a progressive liberal and I wouldn't say those things. I agree that this is a stupid hill to die on. We can offer them the protections they deserve to live free without alienating people and losing votes. Like the trans athletes thing. It seems simple to me. If there is no advantage to growing up one sex and then switching, then why are the sexes divided up for any particular sport? If a trans athlete can join the team because there's no advantage, then the sport should be co-ed. How does that not make sense?

Christians don't "confess" they repeat what they are told to repeat.
