Is anyone else sick of watching nothing but people behaving badly on TV? I can't stand most "reality" tv because it's all about being pathetic and immature and bipolar, although that's an insult to bipolar people.
But even the regular shows embrace this. I can't think of a single show that has characters that model appropriate adult behavior. Why is that? It gets so depressing sometimes. I think that's why I tend to stick with mysteries. Sure, it usually starts with a murder, but generally the story line is that murder is bad.
I think it's that I see so much bad behavior in the world I've lost my patience for it in my fiction.
Never watch "reality" TV. I hate it. In most of the other shows I watch with bad behavior, it's a fleshing out of a character (who's perfect?) or it's played for comedy, which can be pretty funny. Comedy often shows how stupid bad behavior can be.
I'm with you on the reality TV. My daughter loves performing arts and when Dancemoms was big, she was a fan. That was just how I referred to it (adults behaving badly). Most of those shows are like that and I can't stand them. Survivor held my interest for a while because it really is an interesting social experiment. I prefer my TV entertainment to be fantastical. Right now I'm enjoying HBO's Westworld. I'm also a fan of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. These shows have fantastic premises (well, Westworld may be not so far-fetched). I have also enjoyed Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy. These shows all have believable characters doing interesting things.
You're right! I hadn't thought of that, but those are my other favorite shows, like Legion. I should probably stick with Sci-fi.
