Jamie Oliver. I don't know much about him as a person, apart from he is a professional/celebrity chef, but I like his down-to-earth approach to cooking. His recipes are simple and don't involve hard-to-come-by, expensive ingredients. They are also carefully formulated in consideration of nutritional balance. And, most of all, they work!
Here are his £1 Wonders recipes which he offers for absolutely free.
With the cost of food and energy on the rise, Jamie’s £1 Wonders is all about delicious recipes that won’t blow the budget, coming in at less than £1 a portion.
His One-Pan Wonders recipes are also fuss-free, and very good (easy to find online).
His most controversial campaign was to introduce (or re-introduce) decent school lunches, i.e. that had some nutritional value.
Funny how we all survived the so called junk food at school. But not having been a pupil for 50+ years I'm not familiar with canteens @ schools now. I suspect that many have taken the option of muck Donald's, Colonel Slander's, Red Pukester & such like franchises. Our lunches consisted of roast meats, mashed potatoes & 2 vegetables followed by a cooked desert & custard or rice pudding & jam. . . All foodstuffs that were basic English , Scottish & Irish staples eaten for centuries.
@FrayedBear Our school dinners were worth eating. Like you said, meat 2 veg etc. but nowadays it is more likely to be turkey twislers. (Whatever they are) Oliver maintained that academic performance could be significantly improved by having at least one decent meal a day. He put his money and time into showing how this could be done without increasing the budget too much. He did face a lot of opposition from dinner ladies who had to cook instead of reheat, salad-dodger kids and salad-dodger kids mums.
@273kelvin Thank who for declining eating standards? Whereas in our day the school cooks where probably competent mothers & basically trained women our wonderful new age society required university trained impractical gooks influenced by laziness, recreational drugs & big business.
The only thing I know about him is how ruthlessly Uncle Roger trash-talks his food.
Uncle Roger is great.
He has a pop at Gordon Ramsey occasionally too.
His Chinese social media accounts were suspended recently, for violating “….relevant laws and regulations."
