There are the terms religious and spiritual. Let me explain the difference. Religious means following cultural and social norms of a particular religion. Religion is social. Spiritual means following your individual path. Spiritual is personal.

This is why spiritual always comes before religious. Ones own soul comes before that of the collective social norms. This is why religion is placed on a higher shelf in society than spiritual. Because it serves society, not the individual.

There's nothing wrong with serving society. One must serve oneself first. This we understand instinctively.
