The only good advice here is always be polite,and never escalate the situation..The rest of that advice WILL escalate the situation .This is good advice for criminals who have something to hide .This is typical anti police thinking

It shouldn't. This should be how it is dealt with. But it isn't. I used to say that 90% of all cops are corrupt that I have met. I would change that to 50% now, but I think it is because I am older, and meeting a different sampling. I have had cops kick in my door for no reason, two of them ripped my shoulder out of it's socket because they thought I was from out of town and could get away with it. That was funny, because they actually jumped me. Surprised the crap out of me. I thought they were gonna ask me about these Idaho nazi's who had come to a GBH show. She is right that those words SHOULD have value. And you are right that they COULD ESCALATE the situation. And the attitude that 'you have something to hide' is bullshit, and a problem. The police do not own my information. They do not own me. They have guns. That is where they get their rights.
I used to get stopped all the time....the Portland Gang taskforce was horribly misinformed. I actually offered to teach them the difference between groups. These words on that piece of paper only have value if there are witnesses. If there aren't witnesses, you gotta go with the flow, figure out their bent, be nice, but not obsequious. Conversational, not confrontational. And hope for the best.
