Last week during lunch duty I sat next to a group of 5th grade boys and quietly listened as they discussed spirits and ghosts they could talk to in the context that ghosts and spirits were real in our physical world.
After a while I interjected,
“Ok, I don’t get it. Help me out.
The way you understand what I am saying is when I talk I produce sound pressure waves that travel through the air. These pressure waves enter your ear and cause vibrations on your eardrum that moves the bones in your middle ear that act as an impedance matching system that transfer the motion caused by my sound pressure waves into your cochlea where fluids in your inner ear moves tiny hairs that send electrical signals to your brain. Your brain then processes those signals so you can understand what I am saying.
Do ghosts and spirits have ears to detect compression waves ? Do they have brains to process those signals?”
How do ghosts and spirits understand what you are saying?"
The only response was. “My brain hurts.” I responded, “Let me know when you figure it out. I’d really like to know.”
