New to the site....hello! I'm Rick...

Hey, what can I say....I'm a 61 year old first-generation hippie! The main thing that probably makes me unique is the fact I don't hide anything about myself from those inside or outside the "community". I hate closets....but at the same time, integrity is my most prized quality, and I will never lie or betray a trust.

I have been a professional in the broadcasting, journalism, and insurance industries. I have also managed a record store, been a car salesman, and answered calls at a nationwide 800 customer service number! Currently, I am running my own (very) small business. I have always enjoyed jobs with people as the focus of my activity, not just blindly adding to the profits of corporate fat cats.

Hi Rick. I really appreciate your honesty.

1st generation eh? That's stretching it. You were only about 12 when Woodstock happened, I on the other hand was 15 🙂 Welcome.

I'm such a non-conformist....strange in so many ways, and my atheism is only one facet of a multi-dimensional existence, in which there are so many excuses for others to shun me for my refusing to accept their outline of society.

I'm just me....a freak among freaks, but proudly so.

I'm 64. You were mighty young to be a hippie. I was 17 in 1971. And while I admired the movement -- I completely lost out on the free love aspect, and I preferred taking a bath / shower. 🙂 Regarding closets -- you just throw your clothes on the floor, over chairs or whatever? 🙂 I'm here for pen-pals. I was / am a computer programmer -- did this for almost 40 years. Telling a computer what to do is fun for me.

Yes, I was a bit young....but I related to my elder bretheren and sisteren back then...went to what few protests there were locally, and I was baffled that my fundamentalist church friends didn't share my passion in that direction.

Unlike the stereotype (yes, keeping my non-conformity intact), I didn't get deeply into drugs and didn't avoid showers....but I never lot the "spirit"! ...not saying that spirits actually exist...LOL

@RobReinerClone Spirit is an interesting concept. Breaking the spirit of a horse. Spirit as a religious concept. I've considered this and come to the conclusion that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts -- fits most concepts of spirit. Of course, a car is greater than the sum of its parts. 🙂
