Nobody relies solely on themselves. We all ultimately rely on the entire system of which we are a part - namely our society, and the roads it builds, and the medical services it offers, and its educational system, and its food production, and its accumulated wisdom, and the underlying physics and biology that makes it all possible.

Can we really rely on society and its services? Only if you are rich enough , especially in countries like the US. The message I get from the meme is that there is nothing and nobody we can rely on (against the now fashionable stoicism, whose fans claim to rely on themselves, given that everything else is contingent.)
No.... the nightmare has the last word (if you are unable to adopt some soothing illusion!)

I guess I was responding more to your words than the meme. The “thing” that the word “God” refers to can’t die. I’m sure opinions will differ but that’s mine.
Regarding the meme… I don’t see that oneself is any more reliable than anyone else. But everyone has the same sun supplying warmth and the same rain supplying water, neither of which they created themselves. Of course within that support system some individuals have better luck than others, but no one is without a context which they did not create.
@Thibaud70 Well you did post this in the Silly, Random, Fun Group so that was how I took it - pretty damn funny, IMHO.
Skato of course states the obvious but still I'd rather be alone with myself than alone with someone else.
Actually no, I am a confident DIY-er and have lived through some Very trying times, more than enough to Know I can weather any storm.
