Republican ideologues, demagogue and “true believers” who have shut down their reasoning to buy the dogma have a tendency to create t3erms which have no inherent meaning, but which sound ominous. Or that other main tactic is to try to derogate denigrate, or attack people who disagree with them or programs they disagree with is to try to falsely attach labels like “socialist” or “communist “ just to disparate without thought.
An example of the former is their creation of the terms “deep state.” They created the term because the governmental structure of loyal governmental employee’s who believe in honoring their oath to defend the U.S. Constitution, in fulfilling their agencies’ function established by law gets in he way of the undemocratic and authorization goals of the political right. The “deep state” implies that there is a hidden conspiracy to undermine the U.S – A DELIBERATE, UTTER FALSEHIOOD!!!!!!!.
The other main tactic of the extreme right is to take terms which already have extremely negative connotations and attach them to people and programs they wish to defeat or silence. As an example, My extremely right wing grand-nephew call me a “communist.” On Facebook. That was a deliberate insult trying to shut me up, and it angered me deeply.
I felt obligated to point out to him that he did not even really know what communism is and is not, but that I DO. Having served in Berlin at the height of the Cold War, I saw what Communism was and did in East Berlin and how it was a threat to freedom and democracy. I also felt that to defeat Communism, one had to study what it said and did in order to find and use its own weakness against it: “Know thy enemy!” I also told him that his disrespect, ignorance, and mean-spiritedness were all offensive and repulsive.!!
My point is this: We MUST expose, intellectually and logically destroy any such attempts of the right to create, and/or attach false labels trying to attack and denigrate us. We must make it clear what they are trying to do and why
any propagandists say if the same lie is repeated often enough it will be believed by at least some. Probably so.
However BOTH major political parties repeat their lies over and over. Do you really think our Southern Border is secure?
I have seen that many who constantly hear the same lies over and over actually start to believe them, themselves. They often accuse us of the same thing but our knowledge is based on provable facts and can be backed up. I just read an interesting in the Smithsonian titled: "It Can't Happen Here."
Very true, but perhaps not all that new. The far right has always done that, remember back in the pre-war days when Jewery was an insult word. Not to mention "pagan" which goes right back to the days of the Byzantine Empire, and originally meant, villager, which was used as an insult word, because rustic people often clung to the old gods longer than the much easier to indoctrinate urban population, but it soon came to mean just anti-Christian and became a universal insult word, as did, anabaptist in the seventeenth century.
Sad, but true.
How can we do this?
By all of us labelling it as the pureshort sit that it is, and point out its nefrious purpose of undermining our governmental structure, principles, and processes.
