Hi folks I keep getting interrupted here. But now I'm on a roll. So I really got a problem with this National Day of Prayer and also this office of religious studies or whatever it is that they're going to give a room 2 in the White House. This is so much b***. Separation of church and state means exactly that. I refuse as a atheist citizen to even consider something as outrageous as this in the halls of our government. I would like comments on how the rest of you find citizens Field

The marrying of church and state, a recipe for enhancing power, corrupts both.
Our Founding Fathers, many of whom were deist, were painfully familiar with the evils of marrying church and state as the history of warfare and repression in Europe so tragically demonstrate. Funny how those who worship the wisdom of our Founding Fathers agree with them only when it is self-serving to do so.

There are some really great articles about these issues from one of the main groups that is fighting for church-state separation. It's AU, Americans United for Separation of Church and State. The articles on AU's main page right now are all about the issues you raised. [au.org]

Yeah, I dont' think a national day of prayer keeps "faith" with the separation fo church and state.

It's infuriating.

Honestly, I need to read on it more, but it sounds like this administration has no understanding of the fundamentals of American values and laws. It was clearly stated by our Deist Founding Fathers that they scripted our Constitution and laws for the separation of church and state. Their feelings on Christianity were also clear. And it's clear this country was NOT founded on religious freedom, but on capitalist exploitations. I would like to see all that is 'church' go away.

I am new to this community but comments like this make me excited to find i am not alone. Capitalism is like a toothache in my brain.

I agree. I bristle every time I hear a politician refer to the US as a christian nation. Separation of church and state needs to be enforced.

I don't know about that and quite frankly I don't care, as much as I don't care that today is the world wide day for NAKED gardening (Source Hammer and Nigel radio hosts yesterday afternoon). Maybe I should drive around town and if I am lucky then I may catch something pleasant

@McVinegar ha ha ha...well, I am working on mine this morning but not going to comply with today's celebration. Few neighbors have already drove by, cannot tell if they were happy or disappointed though ??

I agree...
Have you seen this?

WOW! thank you for that - i never knew!

The role of chaplain to the WH - is to be filled with a white evangelist - married, with children. The previous one was a Catholic Jesuit - they're known for their radical thinking and interest in politics. Many Republicans in the WH expressed their wish to replace the other one. For Trump it's a matter of strengthening his base voters - the ones who voted him in and keep him there and probably vote him back in. "Make America Great (White) again"

he is just trying to keep the right happy___he wouldn"t know honesty if it bit him in the hinny

Just because Drumf says it, doesn't mean it is going to happen. I sure someone in the White House has read the Constitution. He's just grabbing headlines, again.

How about national 365 days of the separation of church & state?

3

Definitely against it.

There has been nothing that the present administration has done that has pleased me.

I think? They allowed more funding to NASA to send humans back to the moon. If I'm correct that's 1 (& only) thing this admin done that I approve.

@mratheistshirt going to the moon - why? we haven't finished f**gd up this planet yet.

I really hope the moon stays up there in its surreal beauty instead of becoming Real Estate or a source of minerals.

@VLove I saw a special on the science channel that said we may discover that the caves on the moon may be terra-formable much more easily than the surface.

@VLove good point

Hopefully this has got the attention of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Hopefully many will join (if not already a member) and support FFRF in their efforts as well.

Yeah, I guess it sucks. I don’t let it bother me though. As well as being athiest, I’m apolitical too. It just seems like something that will have nil effect on me unless I let it.

Sorry about the misspelling and the wording text-to-speech does not work especially well for me when I'm stoned.
