I remain here as I do not need to hear the urging to leave things to god. I remain here because there is a dearth of adolescent nonsense. I find the exchange of information, opinions, humor, photos, debate, stimulates my mind. The site is easy to negotiate & people here are more learned, experienced, tolerant. The site got me thru becoming a widow, covid , the loss of beloved pets. It has become an outlet for my frustration & rage at the world, where I may remain anonymous. The site has calmed down significantly since many nudniks have departed. Those that remain are far more compatible.

Asking Admins on Senate for permission to copy and publsh anonymous COMMENTS ALONE from below.

This because not only does it pleasingly show the site in a good light but I hope to publish it on a UK local Facebook group page for local non belevers. It could encourage locals to give agnosticism a try. They had their national forum removed about 10years ago because HQ did not know how to deal with trouble makers.

Another good feature that I believe exists on this forum is the ability of the administrators and monitors to gently bring each discussion to a close. Perhaps , Admins you could explain exactly how you do this.

First, there's no advertising. Next, there's no fucking religion.

Can't seem to get it off my phone.

The big answer is I enjoy conversing with somewhat like-minded people, therefore perhaps honing my own world view, with the respectful sharing of other points of view, resources, thoughtful insights, etc. Sadly there are fewer and fewer thoughtful posts, mostly just sharing of tired old memes, and misogynistic images. But I keep returning with hope there will be intelligent discussions once again.

While I might not always post heavy thoughtful topics, especially when my mind is somewhere else, I do enjoy being part of a community with at least one thing in common - the lack of worship of an all-knowing god. It's refreshing to hang out in a place where I won't be bombarded by praying hands and religious quotes.

The small answer is that I enjoy having somewhere to voice my true opinions and thoughts, somewhere other than facebook, since I have to be careful what I post, to keep a somewhat professional social media presence. Plus my relatives and religious friends would see what I really think of them.

Individuals! whom I have many things in common with, who look familiar and I feel like known them for thousands of years. even with huge distances in many aspects!
We're almost on the same path, some are like my past, and some sound like my future!

I have been here for a long time, and haven't found anything that fits my needs as much as this site does, or did in the heyday. I haven't reached level 10 yet, so I will be here at least until that happens.

I've been a member here for six years. I suppose I keep coming back here because I like reading what others have to say and I like discussing/debating ideas. Also, there are a lot less morons here than on Facebook.

Because other than a small group of intimates, it's the only gathering in my life where I don't have to accommodate the religious and their influence. I don't feel the need to bash them, it's just refreshing to take off the veil of deference that exists in so many places ... kind of like taking off my shoes and bra to get comfortable when I get home. 🙂

In a more practical vein, there are other atheist groups out there, but this format - even with its idiosyncracies - is by far the easiest to navigate and keep up with folks on an individual and group basis.

Not having to deal with any negative feedback from theists.

If someone tells me something I did not know, or something contrary to what I thought I knew, I can have more confidence the individual is correct.

6

I enjoy reading the various replies and viewpoints, the music posts, the memes and for sure smacking around the scammers and weirdos.

5

It accommodates both individual profiles and group discussions.

MY OWN ANSWER

  1. IT TALKS ABOUT EVERYHING UNDER THE SUN

  2. I find it easier to admt that there are many things and situations in my life that I do not know and have had to live with not knowing.

  3. I do not mind being wrong as long as you accept my appology

  4. it is a very good negtiating position if you want to gently persuade anyone towards your own views or simply test out their ideas, again if they accept appologies.
