The Canadian government has started a new 'nudge' campaign to psychologically manipulate you into small and senseless rituals which claim that you will save money and stop climate change if you just comply. The video for 'At Home' features a fellow taking the bus, a woman using a battery electric leaf blower instead of a gas-fueled one, a couple getting a heat pump installed and a family hanging their laundry on the line instead of using a dryer. Everyone looks ecstatic! As Robert Lyman writes in "When Giants Arise" - emissions in the Western developed nations have been flat for decades; 100% of global emissions growth is happening in the emerging nations. So you complying with these silly suggestions will do nothing to stop climate change and if you are hanging your clothes out in winter - you'll probably suffer chill blains and chapped skin. Of course, if you WANT to do these things or live this way - go ahead! But don't be 'greenwashed' by this psychological manipulation that the government is paying millions of dollars for to places like UBC to figure out how to con you into climate compliance. That money - your tax dollars - could be much better spent on practical adaptation measures rather than misleading the public on climate change and creating a set of 'social contagion' practices' meant to ultimately become the societal norm, thereby limiting your freedom of choice.
