The more things change, the more they stay the same it seemsโฆ..

It takes time to change a culture. Cultures do change, but whole generations have to die off before countries can change their cultures. And sadly or happily depending on what you want, the laws of unintended consequences and chaos are so powerful, that they rarely change in a planned and intended way.
Throughout history there has been a trend for populist revolutions, to be followed by long periods of extreme dictatorship, which usually last for fifty to a hundred years before something like the ideals of the revolution are to a degree accomplished. There then of course, often follows, a long slow decline, into corruption and decadence, until another populist uprising is required.
South or otherwise, Africa does have its slums. So do we. Across the highway from me there is a trailer park owned by a slum lord. He's the man that co-signed for my electric when I left him. At the time I had not had electric in the state of Missouri for a few years.
Each country in Africa is quite different from the next politically, culturally, economically, and geologically. I donโt think you can really put all the countries in Africa in the same box.
Besides, I didnโt post this article to point out the global poverty that is self evident everywhere. I shared the article to show that not much if anything has changed in SA since apartheid ended and the Mandelaโs took the reinsโฆ..
@DenoPenno Iโm afraid you are incorrect on that one. SA has tight regulations on firearms. Only those with a permit can own them, and you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get one. Applicants are thoroughly vetted. Truth is no other country has near the mass shootings/shootings that we have, SA or otherwise.
On another note, SA was the first country to legalize gay marriage.
SA isnโt even on the map when it comes to mass shootings. But we are way above everyone on shootings in general, mass or notโฆ.

Upon researching further, many impoverished 3rd world countries have higher homicide rates then we do. Supposedly the US had a homicide rate of 6.4 per 100,000 last year.
And SA had a homicide rate of 41.9 per 100,00 last year. Just goes to show what I knowโฆ..
