In fact, hummingbirds flap their wings over 20 times that amount each second, with many beating their wings 80 or more times each and every second that they are in flight. This makes hummingbirds have the fastest wing beat of any bird, while many predatory birds, such as eagles and hawks, rarely flap their wings at all, instead relying on hot air pockets to keep them afloat.
