My first pair of hearing aids lasted almost exactly 5 years. And died the week I had house guests and we were busy, busy, busy. My daughter and her family were back in the states for their summer visit, my hearing aids died the day we went to the zoo. I got to Costco for new hearing tests the following week, and the model I needed/wanted was not in stock... Finally tomorrow I will be able to pick them up. The good news is the price has not gone up in 5 years. It didn't go down either but that's to be expected.

Glad you're getting the sleep thing under control. Had a bit of trouble with that a while back, adjusted fluid intake and made some black curtains for the window.
As to the other 'issues' of being 70. The 2 systems that are still going strong are my hearing and smell, everything else seems to be going downhill at an alarming rate, lol.
The sinus thing, have you tried acupressure/acupuncture? There's a spot in that little bowl just above the earlobe but before you get to the ear canal - it's between the ear canal and the ridge above the lobe. If you use you finger nail and just poke around or massage that area, you may feel a sort of prick, if you do that is the spot to focus on and then just 'work' a bit with your nail.
I use to get sinus infections on regular basis but then I found this doctor that had gone beyond medical training and also studied acupuncture. It was about 30 years ago now, well one Friday I woke up with a really bad sinus 'thing', allergies would trigger me terribly. He was able get me in and he was not sure if it was an infection. He put a little pin thingy in my ear (the spot I described earlier) held in place with a bit of medical type tape, with instructions to massage the area every few hours. He also wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic with the instructions to take the meds if I was not feeling any relief within 24 hours. Be the next morning my sinuses were clear and feeling really great. I continue to use the this technique, I don't use a pin to find the spot, just my nail, and then I massage it throughout the day.
Sometimes I use magnets, the sort you find on a clasp for a necklace. I found the magnet clasps on beaded necklaces at yard sales and the thrift store. I took the beads off and put a short cotton string on the ends. One magnet goes in the little bowl in the ear and the other on the outside behind the one on the inside. It really does works to unplug my sinuses.

Good to know, I will check it out.

I have hearing enhancers (under $100) that I use to watch TV sometimes as I have trouble pulling speech out of the background music without them. But I can’t wear them on a regular basis, can’t stand all the racket! I kind of like my quieter world.

I didn't wear the HA for about 3 weeks because they didn't work. Now I have the new ones on and OMG my radio is loud!!! The keyboard is loud too! And my freaking kitties!! They're supposed to be quiet animals. The thing is, your brain will relearn how to filter all the chaos out in just a few days. I have been out of work for several weeks... months. I don't want to retire yet. To go back to work I have to get my insomnia under control, and of course I have to be able to hear. The insomnia is coming along, and I've got the hearing issue covered. I may be working on yet another sinus infection... my third this year. Getting old sucks, but not getting older sucks worse.

@HippieChick58 This is the problem I had...and, although it did get better, some situations were almost unbearable--concerts, large gatherings, echoing rooms, etc. I finally gave up.

I also got hearing aids about 2 years ago. Hearing in the normal range (20-2,000 hz) is normal but the high ends are missing and tinnitus has become a nuisance, hence the aids. It's funny but a small shop vac I use around the house has just the right frequency and using it has reduced the tinnitus. The thing I love about this device is it has Bluetooth so I can listen to music while on a walk or in the gym. Some features of advanced models are great. Mine are Phonak brand. Didn't get them at Costco but a audiologist in the main city of the county Friday Harbor. She comes to Lopez once a month and gives a talk. Too many (mostly men) seem to think hearing aids are for sissies.

My first pair was Phonac. They lasted just short of 5 years. And yes, my former husband gets hugely angry when anyone suggests he needs hearing aids. I will be leaving shortly to get my new hearing aids.

@HippieChick58 My daughter has the same problem with her husband (hopefully now ex). She said its a genetic disorder and his father and brother are the same. They sit around saying "what did you say." It drove her crazy.

@HippieChick58 I discovered those aids need maintenance. A little book that came with them detailed how to do the maintenance (cleaning earwax from the speaker). I noticed a tear in the little speaker cover and called the audiologist office. The owner come here once a month and will be here tomorrow which works out for me.
My daughter told me when her doofus husband wears the hearing aids (not often) they have good talks but when not they get into a fight. This fool hasn't figured that out. My problem is, being her parent, it's hard for me to interfere with her marriage. Fortunately, I do have some leverage. In the end I got her to seek a therapist, which she did and really likes. This way a third party can help her understand she needs to escape a rotten marriage. I asked her what their 15 YO son thought of his father and he told his mother he thinks dad is a bit of a sociopath!
