The take home is that a supposedly almighty god is utterly powerless to influence those that do evil in his name.

The problem is that it absolutely says both, and one's perspective is often shaped by which view is presented in childhood during those extremely formative years. I'm always glad for those who cherry pick the good — love, charity, kindness — but the other, darker message is still in there, lurking, waiting to get its message of hate, judgement, and damnation out to the right person who will use it to exploit the biases and prejudices of the masses for political and financial gain.

I've always been baffled by those who despise and judge the poor... as if it were a lifestyle choice to be indigent.
