Earlier that day, Senator Thorpe was part of a group of Indigenous protesters at the Australian War Memorial. Chanting “always was, always will be Aboriginal land,” the group of around two dozen positioned themselves away from the royal couple. A video from the event shows Thorpe briefly tussling with police before slipping out of an officer’s grip and walking away.
Thorpe also stood inside Parliament with her back turned as the Australian anthem played.
Australian Aboriginals are not one people eg over 700 language groups when European settlement occurred. They traded with each other and also Papua New Guinea ie ochres have been found in Sth Australia originating from PNG. What I am saying is there is no one singularly united Aboriginal voice.
When I worked at an Aboriginal community, they had very little time for your Senator Thorpe types who they referred to as "Coconuts" eg black on the outside, white on the inside. They weren't talking about skin tone, they were talking about identity and culture. These "Aboriginals" have very little Aboriginal culture about them, not their fault just the way it is. But they are the ones who relinquish Aboriginal sacred/ culturally historic/ significant areas to whitey government without the knowledge of what they actually do to their peoples heritage.
Thorpe wants to play the game as she became Senator. The game has rules. Charlie boy is head of state in Australia. She is a dickhead attention seeker whom I would not assume has widespread support in Aboriginal Australia.
i don't know enough about it. i posted hoping you would see and respond thank you!
@1patriot Australia is unique in the story of colonisation as they were never conquered, there was never a treaty negotiated. Not because they didn't fight, they burnt down Sydney town in the early years almost causing the colony to be abandoned.
It was because they were never recognised as human, people. Australia declared "Terra Nullius". Wildlife still, not yet evolved into "true" people worthy of recognition thus negotiation was the official stance.
Australian Aboriginal land was stolen rather than acquired through a more honourable conquest like elsewhere. Not a good history towards indigenous peoples has Australia.
