I feel compelled to plant, or prune what’s there. In my neighborhood, folks mow constantly ..with big loud ‘riders.’ I’ve been told, ‘that’s why we don’t plant trees,’ ‘ya gotta mow around em!’ I hate mowing, but love trees!

If you’d like to ‘tune that big one up,’ get in there while it’s dormant and remove anything growing: straight up, straight down, toward the center (trunk), or dead. After that, the tree’d be about 85% pruned

Looks nice. I have a large yard, plant a few flowers, cut grass, trim. I am a minimalist though, nothing real fancy. Grass is part weeds, my backyard is near a farm field. I refuse to use anything to control them and let nature take over. Also a lot of evergreens around the house and yard. I prefer to keep it as natural as possible. Lots of birds, rabbits, squirrels, even had a fox coming around.

I wish I had a backyard; I wouldn't have to give away my avocado plants. Each year I grow one or two from scratch but as soon as they became 36 inches high I have to give it to my friends. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Agree. I often do it with no headphones/music/podcasts. It has become a mindfulness meditation for me.
