I was watching a documentary about tattoos and society's reaction to people who took it to the extreme. Would you ever consider getting your face tattooed?

I don't personally like tattoos, so no, would not get one on my face. If someone else wants to, it's fine w me. Everyone expresses themselves in different ways. I would imagine it would narrow your employment options though.

I would like to know, what IS the purpose behind having tattoos? I have hard time to understand it.There has to be a purpose. What is it? I see tattoos all jumbled. If you want to see what they are about, you'd have to ask the bearer to stop and explain. Some take offense to that and some can't even explain. I see tattoos that says nothing. WHY? I know why. It's a fad and you don't give a fuck what it says about you..

I have two on the right side of my left ankle. One of a cresent moon and two stars that I got to celebrate my daughters birth. The second is a raven in the Celtic knot style. The raven is an intelligent bird and I needed a reminder that all is not what it appears (sounds weird I know but it is mine) that I got just recently.

Why are you so angry about what people do with their own bodies? Chill out dude IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOU..

Most people get them for CREATIVE EXPRESSION. Just like you pick a phone case that you like, or a screen saver on your computer, we like having tattoos. Some people get them for meaningful and personal reasons, like the one of my yin-yang symbol is to represent my constant struggle with depression. The one on my wrist keeps me from slicing my wrists open and yeah maybe some of us don't want to share the personal meanings of our tattoo like that because the tattoo is for US not you.

And others get stupid tattoos for no reason and that's their right too.

you are not ENTITLED to justification for what someone does to their own body

Not everything has to have some deep meaning. I have mine because they're pretty. Full stop. That's the only 'meaning' I need.

@LadyAlyxandrea, @memorylikeasieve I choose the car I drive or the clothes I wear according to what I can afford. They have nothing to do about who I am.

@coreten well sorry you have no uniqueness or creativity or hopes or dreams

Maybe if they could do a tattoo of Brad Pitts face over my own.

I wouldn't get any tattoo for any reason, anywhere.

2

Yes, in order to make myself unemployable(98%kidding)

2

Only if l could get a perfect representation of George Clooneys' face covering mine.

2

No I am not a tat.

2

No. I have 2 on my spine and will probably get one more. The only thing on my face I would have tattooed would be my eyebrows when they perfect that technique

2

Nope.

2

Yes, I would consider it. I probably would never get it done, but my mind is open enough to consider..

Getting a tattoo on your face is kinda like having a baby...you want to make sure you really want it!! No tattoos here BTW

2

Im not against tattoos. I have seen some really nice ones.... but I don't care for them on the neck or face, just my opinion.....

2

I don't have any tattoos, let alone have I ever considered one on the face. The biggest issue I would have with a face tattoo personally is how the tattoo would be affected by aging and exposure to the sun.

Like you said, society... there were, and still are very few societies where that was perfectly acceptable but imagine today if a doctor, lawyer or pilot showed up all tatted, wouldn’t sit well. Most professional jobs do not allow visible tattoos so if one wants a job like that it’s part of the deal, no face tattoos.

@SKETCHYZOMBIE under suits and dresses, yes, but on the face no.

I doubt it but who knows. If you think about it, it really isn't that extreme... I understand that extreme is the furthest point from the norm but who's norm? Those with tattoos on their face have that as their norm... It's subjective like most norms.

One may do with ones body as they please, but it isn’t for me.

Permanent body illustrations require a resolute level of commitment, but also an understanding that life is not static. With maturity comes changing views.

Like a painting one is initially enthusiastic about. After having it hanging on the wall for a few years, it may become tiresome and boring. You may also find the artist of the rendering to be associated with religious or political biases you would rather have nothing at all to do with. However, unlike the option of being able to remove the painting, you are relegated to confront it as an unwanted blemish on the wall of your living space everyday for the rest of your life.

Perhaps it’s great when you first get it, then over the years you see it fade. You may become disenchanted as to how it has weathered on you.

Getting a tattoo, whether you are truly committed to the permanence of it, or you believe it was a mistake directly after having gotten it, can be a life-defining decision.

My suggestion: Give it much careful deliberation.

I don't mind tattoos, but I also think people need to consider how it will impact parts of their lives. Since I work in the corporate world, I would never get a tattoo that couldn't be covered by my clothing. A face tattoo would not be an option for me, ever. Do I mind if other people do it? No. They do need to face the reality that it will change how others see them.

I have 2 tattoos, but I am a medical professional so they have to be in places where I can cover them. I anticipate in another few years they will be so commonplace that people won't have the negative reaction to them that some have.

@Amy0825 One of the nicest and most knowledgeble pharmacists I knew in our hospital system had tattoos everywhere. She wore them proudly because they meant something. I got my first ones at 50 and have added to them every other year. They all represent the stories of Norse Mythology and are my show and tell. If you ask about my tattoos, I will tell you all the stories.

A while back I was at an exotic pet store talking to an eccentric employee about the animals and I was getting a very strange vibe from him. We kept talking awhile and suddenly I had the very jarring realization that he had snake eyes tattooed on his eyelids. At first I was only subconsciously aware of seeing the snake eyes fleetingly when he blinked. When I became consciously aware of the snake eyes it was very jarring and unsettling and the eyes seemed to be glaring at me for a second. I still vividly remember it years later.

I know this doesn’t answer the question. I just thought it was interesting.

That's something you definitely don't get to experience everyday. No wonder it stayed with you.

Hell no. I think some tats are OK, but in general, I don't get it... personally got none.

I love tattoos i have a sleeve and i plan on getting more but not on my face idk that just seems like to much to me but if someone wants that good for them

I have tattoos and each one is meaningful or marks a life milestone. I love them. They are visible, but can be covered if I choose. I usually choose to let them show. I also have eyeliner tattooed on, although it it is a very thin line. I have a crescent moon on my neck, but I would not have a tattoo on my face. I know a lot of people don't like tattoos and/or don't approve of them, which is fine. Since they don't have to get tattooed, there is no problem. I have people ask me about my tattooed, and nearly every day someone tells me they love my Luna Moth tattoo and my Nautalus tattoo. But, some people don't like them, and if they verbalize thier disapproval, i just tell them that I assume they don't have any, so good for them. Sometimes I mention that I am thinking about what my next one will be. At any rate, it doesn't matter to me if someone doesn't like my ink, since I am not getting a tattoo for their benefit.

Not unless I was wealthy and didn't a thing from anyone. Probably not then either. Neck tats are also out. Arms, torso and legs are one thing but....

1

IF society would be more open and accepting, but even I find myself judging people based on their facial tattoos. I've seen some really nice looking ones though, too, where the person doesn't have to worry about future employment like Kat Von D

1

I have often said that if I did something really stupid, I would tatto the words I HAVE FAILED in reverse lettering on my forehead, to remind me every day when I look in the mirror in the morning. Other than that, no, I wouldn't consider it.
