Is anyone aware of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? I believe the whole thing began in Texas (of all places) where they accepted that the theory of Intelligent Design was to new taught in schools, which of course is deplorable to any good Atheist, so one of the parents offered that his alternate theory, which had as much factual background, that of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, also be taught in schools. He came up with a whole back story about Him, and his noodly appendage, etc. It was very impressive to me.
I’ve been an FSM minister for many years now.
I treat it as a joke or conversation piece. I guess it’s putting an amusing spin on my atheism. I don’t intend to offend, though some may take it that was it’s not my intention.
I respect utterly the beliefs of others, I only ask that they respect my lack of belief.
I remember the beginnings of that, and smiled, thinking it would at least give the religious something to consider … but that was back in the days I was ‘picketing the pope,’ or more directly confronting religious power.. As the spaghetti thing grew I was turned off by the near cult-like following ‘it’ was receiving ... when alternative religions were not the answer - direct action was/ is.
