Ok I've had it with the cost of cigarettes. Tonight (May 14, 2018 11:22 pm) I smoked my last cigarette. I'm putting myself on blast to keep me steady. I know it will be difficult but it's time. Wish me well and help keep me on track. Any comments welcome

How heavy a smoker were you? I quit cold turkey without any difficulty years ago but was only a very light social smoker. I've had friends that were heavy smokers that were able to quit with chantix years ago. Neither one have gone back.
Down from 2 packs to one/day.

Best of luck, I know the pain. each time I failed I learned something for the next time. Mostly that I never want to go through the pain of giving up ever again. However bad it gets remember that's only more reason to not go back to square one. You can do this.

I wish you well! I tried quitting dozens of times before I finally did it. It's miserable, but worth it! I ended up just doing it with nicotine lozenges.
I don't know what "on blast" is... is it a drug? I tried Chantix, and had a bad experience. Chantix either works like a miracle drug or makes you insane. I was the latter. Got freakishly depressed. Like, craaaaaaaaazy. If you decide to try it, make sure you tell people close to you (friends, coworkers, anyone you see regularly) that you're taking it and that severe depression is a possibility. They will need to understand what's happening if you start acting "not yourself." Sometimes it's hard for the "crazy" person to realize she/he is crazy. You'll need some people keeping their eye on you.
You can do this! It sucks, it's annoying and obnoxious and irritating and infuriating, but it's worth it. I wish I had some great advice to make it better, but I don't. I wish you well!!!!
I used mini tootsie roll pops to help mouth be busy. I would totally own a craving, by saying out loud I wanted one. Or screaming it. It will only be day a day or two to get the nicotine out of your system. The mental withdrawals are much worse. You CAN do this. It will be ten years for me in Sept. I quit cold turkey after I planned a stop date. I smoked for about twenty odd years.

@VAL3941. Thats a good point and thanks for the suggestion. Heres my excuse. Im 66 in September. I've been checked for asbestosis. My lungs are clean. I smoke maybe 15 cigarettes a day. The lite ones. I stay out of everybodies way when i smoke. I understand thier space and not wanting to smell them. I enjoy smoking and it doesnt stop me from doing what i want to do. I can go hours without one. I understand how some may have to quit because if health reasons or thier job. I could walk right out my office and smoke and drink coffee when i was working. It wasnt a problem for me or others. I respect those that want to quit. Especially females that can become mothers or are mothers. My second wife quit because she was an RN at the hospital. To much trouble to smell fresh and not smell like smoke. I suppose ill quit in a few years when it becomes a problem. But at this moment in my life im enjoying a freedom that only retired people would understand. Its like spring break forever. Schools out forever. I get paid for doing nothing. Everyday is Saturday! Im not going to stress out for the next 5 years. With that being said.... thats my excuse... hmmm.... i know thats not an acceptable answer... im sorry for that.

Don't be sorry as your lifestyle is your choice. Smoking is smoking whichever way you look at it and it is a killer ! Good luck on your retirement ?
I know what you mean, I can't believe how much they cost. I smoked for 32 years and quit cold turkey. That was 17 years ago. When I started a pack was 35 cents, when I quit I was a 3 pack a day, can't imagine 3 packs at today's prices

Try mindfulness meditation and/or hypnosis and/or nicorette inhalers. Give your mind and hands something else to do. If you take something away, without replacing it with something better, probability of success is radically reduced.
Even if you try and fail try again, eventually you'll get it done! I'm an ex-smoker of 40 yrs. , clean 10 yrs. Good Luck and hang in there. I was amazed at the amount of my I have now and not worried if I have enough cigs to last the night. Charging cigs on credit or debit cards, going out in inclement weather and down here in Florida going out during hurricane alerts to stock up. LOL

@ashortbeauty I just remembered, I never did this but was told eating raw carrot sticks will curb the urge for nicotine and also occupy your hands.

You can do this. I haven't smoked now in 18 years. I tried twice before and didn't make it. You have to really want to quit. A non smoking buddy is good but know this also -- you cannot hang around with all your old smoking friends and become a non smoker. That doesn't work and they will not want you to succeed even if they say they are all for you. They would not want you to succeed at something they cannot do. I was a 2 pack a day smoker.

If you haven't already got one get a no smoking buddy you can talk with at the slightest inclination to smoke. They help enormously. I ceased 2000 after 36 years of smoking in no small part helped by a stop smoking buddy.

Regardless of the cost. It should have been over with a long long time ago. But at least u have now taken the first and right step. Let's hear u have taken that second step. We waiting.

Mostly downs. Was attacked recently and nerves have been on edge. Dogs pick up an e cig to try that though

Definitely try vaping. If you go to a vape store, you can choose the level of nicotine. I successfully quit cigarettes by vaping. Started at a high milligram of nicotine and just lowered it a bit every couple of months. Down to zero, and then I quit vaping. However, when I started Ubering part time and found myself constantly going for chips and candy while on the road, I started vaping again. I try to be discreet about it for the most part since ,as my dad said (before I quit vaping the first time), "It looks so stupid." But, I'd rather look stupid vaping than smoking cigarettes or gaining 30 pounds in no time flat from over-snacking.
