Conan the Barbarian was released on this day in 1982
Read the books before the movies, arnold despite his muscles was not a Sumerian looking dude. In the book covers Conan had black hair. Bad Barbarian accent by arnold.
I loved that movie at the time..but I saw it recently and it seemed a little dated or I don't know..??
I prefer the books / short stories to the one's with Arnold S. It wasn't Arnold -- he made a great looking Conan with the 'barbaric' accent. It was the justification for Conan's actions that made the movies bad. Conan, by Robert E. Howard, was an anti-hero -- he never justified what he did. Love Howard's work and have been glad to see Kull, Conan, Red Sonja, Solomon Kane (the best one -- though it combines 2 stories -- to date) made into movies.
My favourite line was "Food for Wolf"
@StarvinMarvin I though the actor looked so chagrined and resigned when he said that
@StarvinMarvin I loved the music they played for his character
It was released in December, 1932. My father introduced me to Robert E Howard and I to my sons. He didn't pass to the next generation because my daughter and step daughter were scandalized by the book covers. He was the first author I binged. My first crush wasn't the little girl on the playground, it was Dejah Thoris.
Yeah... i remember when we would walk around in the gym with no shirt on... lol! now i don't want to take it off...lol ?
