We had a great stamp club meeting last night (May 16). Two people from Canada Post in Ottawa made an excellent presentation about the design process of going from concept to postage stamp. Apparently, it takes about 2 years. They also brought treats, presents and door prizes. Everyone at the meeting got a set of First Day Covers featuring hockey stamps and one of the new stamp that is being officially unveiled on May 18. My daughter won one of the door prizes. She won a large print of the Grizzly bear stamp that was framed with an actual Grizzly bear stamp. Coincidentally, My daughter's nickname is Bear.
We're looking forward to attending the unveiling of the new stamp on Friday. We got formal invitations and there will be a lunch! Great way to start the long weekend.
Are you a stamp collector?
Yes. My daughter does, too. We collect topical and countries. I'm known for being especially fond of stamps with pictures of mushroom or spiders.
Do you collect stamps?
@pixiedust I like coins, but I'm not a serious collector. One of my grandfathers collected stamps. When he died he had tons of shoeboxes full of stamps. I think my grandmother sold the collection for $40,000, which I thought was a low price, but I wasn't the one trying to get rid of them.
@AstralSmoke Wow! I would have loved to see those stamps. My daughter and I also collect coins. We'll be going to the monthly coin club meeting tonight. We always have an auction and a presentation at the meetings.
