Why is everyone so caught up on physical beauty. If you don't stink, and your hands are clean . . . Isn't everything else superficial? I am 58 years old. I can not physically look like a 20 year old. . . . Just as you can not look like one either. I know I am not ugly. I know I am not beautiful. Can't we just look at each other for who we are? (I do like people with teeth) Hehe.

We are all attracted to who we are attracted to. I have never been able to control who l am attracted to. It is what it is. It is that simple.

I'm not saying to lower standards . . . I am just saying give the person a chance. This was a first sight thing. If you don't know the personality, then how can you know whether or not you are attracted. Are you just attracted to physical beauty? Personality counts. doesn't it? I'm just asking. . . . . I am actually curious how this works.

@Polly Of course personality is most important. Most of the time that initial physical attraction is the thing that will get you interested enough to find out about thelir personality. I have met women whom l wasn't particularly attracted to, but after getting to know them their personality made them sexy.I have met women who were really pretty, but their personality was a turnoff, or there was no chemistry. I have women friends that l love their personality, but l am not physically attracted to them. That is one thing men can't fake. There is chemistry or their isn't. ☺

Because genetics has programmed us to be drawn to attractiveness. Out in the world though - there are so many variables. Then it boils down to how you're relating to someone. Friends ?, co-workers?, casual acquaintances ? , lots of leeway there.

Looking for a mate and potential lover ? Most likely one's choices will be more discerning. Then there needs to be an attraction of some sort - and we each respond to very different cues, which often have nothing to do with "physical beauty " , as defined by society standards anyway .

I agree totally,
sadly I cannot find people in the physical world who follow though on these ideals.

Well, too bad that we don't live closer together. LOL

I think some women feel pressured to look perfect by other women. For years, our role models have been magazine models and "how to please a man" and sexy older women like Cher and Madonna. I don't think it's reasonable as we get into our 50's and beyond, to try to look like we're thirty. Sure, we can do things to look better, and I'm not against a nip-tuck, but if your face looks 30 and your body looks 70, how is that reality? I just want to be my best, for myself, not to please anyone else!

I don't know the answer to that myself...When I became widowed, I thought being alone would be ok at my age, but discovered how alone "alone" really is, guess I had forgotten, been a long time since I have bached it.... I tried a dating site & was feeling pretty much on the outside looking in for the most part... I am 62, I don't want to party all night, or jet set all over the Caribbean...I cannot take off & hike 10 miles anymore, either...Don't want to go on wine tasting tours, not the least bit interested in sports of any kind, & cigars are certainly not my thing...I did strike up a conversation with a girl, but when she was told I don't text, never heard from her again... I didn't realize texting was a prerequisite for dating...I like it when a woman lets her true hair color come thru,it is a badge of courage & rightfully earned... beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just like the old saying... I think mature women my age are just as sexy as the young ones, & I sure have a lot more in common with them...& the ones my age make goodies in the oven, which is a big plus as far as I am concerned....LOL...
