I was a SCUBA instructor and I was conducting a class on first aid when the sound of a car crash came from the street out in front of the building. An early-teen girl on a bicycle had been hit by a car. It tore open her leg and arterial bleeding was spraying out of the wound. I ran over to her and applied pressure to her femoral artery to keep her from bleeding to death until the aid car could get there and take over from me. I never saw her again. Her first name was Leslie.

I worked in a behavioral group home and jumped in on a client who pulled a girl's hair in the transport van (her MO was hairpull leading to a neck snap) I finally got her hands out of her hair and months later she got me. I guess every take-down could easly have saved someone's life, so sure- I guess I have. I also did suicide hotline counseling, but who knows with that one- I hope so.

I have twice cut prisoners down from homemade nooses in my career. I don't think either of them meant to get as close to dying as they did, but their attention seeking ploys got beyond their control and they couldn't get themselves free.

Beyond that, I realize this is sort of negative, but I have frequently refrained from using force in a situation where I could have, and that possibly spared a life or even more than one...

Never saved a life, but I've stopped at countless car wrecks when people where not in their right minds and panicing.

Having someone help them realize that they'll be ok is worth a lot at that moment. As atheists, we have a duty to be better people then the fundies we complain about.

I've saved three people from drowning. They all happened in one year, the summer when I was eighteen years old. Two were in a pool, and one in a lake. I was lucky enough to be observant and a good swimmer. I never had lifeguard training or worked as one.

Wow- what a great feeling that must have been. Are you curious about what they did with their life after you gave it back to them? Kind of like "It's a Wonderful Life".

Actually, 2 of them are now dead. One died of brain cancer, the other of an overdose. The other one that is still alive I have tried to contact on FB, but I got no response. I guess that is respect for a response to your lifesaver. The JW dysfunction runs deep!

Ah, here we go with the personal questions. I am skipping on this one.
