What do you think about the politically correct situation? Is it too much? Not enough? Simply a stupid ordeal in its entirety? Can no one take a joke, or are the jokes in bad taste?
I don't believe the current culture is any different than in years past, as it pertains to sensitivities. The real difference is social media. People are being essentially forced to see that there are people outside of what they consider "normal." This sort of cultural shock inhibits our comfortability when we make non politically correct statements, jokes, etc.
So what used to be behind closed doors or only in the presence of like characters is in the public domain. Naturally, one group is going to find offense at some point from time to time.
Being PC isn't a one-size-fits-all rule. It's a guideline that can be taken too far or not far enough, or used just right. I don't want to offend anyone, but I'm not afraid to offend anyone either.
I'd say 10-20 years ago political correctness was needed more, then it got out of hand and was over-utilized, and now I'd say we're back to lacking in it. There are many people who can't take a joke and a lot who tell bad jokes too. There's no hard and fast rule for political correctness.
The real problem is that there are too many people who expect to receive more respect than they want to give to others.
I never really understood what people meant by being overly politically correct. Until I got my a$$ chewed on here by referring to women as women. I didn't say hoes, chicks, dames, bitches, etc. I said women. Apparently that's a derogatory term. She blocked me so it's all good.
People are fickle at best so timing is also important along with content. Seems a slippery slope. Some comedians can insult the audience and get a laugh, some won't. Probably best to accept what comes and speak your mind. Seems enough respect that as well.
I think it's just a loud minority of people that know nothing about the real world. But at the same time, there will always be people who get put off by jokes about sensitive topics. As someone who loves offensive and nihilistic comedy, I understand that there is a chance of people getting put off.
It's gotten out of hand. Google "Count Dankula."

No one understands comedy anymore. And news media has agenda to drive a wedge. Also 1 percent think they can change social norms for the other 99% what do you think?
I believe it has gone way overboard. People should be more tolerant of what people say. Sunlight is the best disinfectant ,so go ahead and put it out there WTF. But if you're going to be racist, sexist or any other phobic nonsense be prepared to own it. When people own their stupid s*** at least people could agree to disagree.
One must tread lightly on this site.
Which is pretty silly.
