All types of woo tend to annoy me. My friends are respectful of my beliefs, as I am of theirs, and even the Christians don't pepper their speech around me with "believer-speak". But I find what I term "hippie-woo" irritating in the extreme. And there are a LOT of old hippies here-there's even a well-attended "Hippiefest". I had asked an acquaintance to the Rev. Shawn Amos event and invited her in to my place afterwards for a cup of tea. She immediately started in with the hippie-woo. (Her tie-dye apparel should have warned me, lol.)She exclaimed over "the great energy of my place" (I bit back a snarky comment over AEP providing it), remarked upon how my dog's eyes showed her soul (no, Miss P was most likely angling for a treat), told me I had "wonderful karma" (WTF does that even mean?) and peppered almost every statement with "namaste". I was just WAITING for her to break out the tarot cards....AAAARRRGH! I can see now that this person and I are not going to become friends. She will remain in my "acquaintance" category.
Yes, totally understand your feelings on this. I'm surrounded by woo-ish comments on my little island which seems to be a retreat for the "hippie woo" types who seem to be escaping something negative in their past by striving to "create positive energy" everywhere they go, by imposing their beliefs on everyone around them. They don't seem to be able to comprehend that they might be turning off people who have a more realistic approach to life.
