Here's the situation I'm currently in. When the ex left we had a sky tv and broadband in his name. I asked him to cancel it so I could set it up in my name. He said no need, I'll set it up so you can discuss the account with them. Roll on to 1 year later and sky won't discus the account with me without "my husbands permission". He says he has called them and set up a password but they keep telling me that the password is incorrect. I can't alter or cancel the account without his permission. So if I was in an abusive relationship and couldn't approach him what would I do? If I cancel payment I lose service the address gets blacklisted and I won't be able to get a different service!

Actually I think it would be more like somebody new moved into that address since the bill is in his name. Tell him, the bill is in your name, cancel the account or I will stop paying. Since the account doesn't have your name on it, the unpaid bill will go on his credit report.

You could quit paying the bill and collection agencies go after him. He has more to lose than you.

Breaking up is never easy.. But it seems tieing up the loose ends is even more convoluted and frustrating.
There must be some way around this,...you couldn't be the only person to have found themselves in this situation.

If you have exhausted all avenues with SkyTV, including asking for a person of authority in customer service the next thing I would suggest filing a complaint to the FCC. I did this to my cable supplier after they didn't repair an issue with me and I got swift response, issue repaired and a $75 credit for my inconvenience.
