We've rolled out new video-based harassment training at work. I'm happy about this for all of the obvious reasons, but one in particular that's relevant to us here: In going over the protected classes under EEOC, they introduced people of different ethnicities, genders/trans, and religion! I was thrilled to see them directly reference atheism.
Having said this - despite what is being presented as "Law" in anti-harassment workplace training - we all know there is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. I think there is a lot to be hopeful about, while also being sad that we still have so far to go.
HR departments are usually useless when it comes to bullying problems.
Depends. Larger companies are more prone to ignoring, especially if the offender is highly placed. The small company I work for now terminated 2 workplace bullies within the last year. There is always hope!
A family member was badly let down by her HR department in a large government organisation. A long running bullying case. The offender was protected, but has a history of bullying.
But it's good to know some HR departments do the right thing.
@Ellatynemouth Totally 100% agreed. I have heard similar stories. Sorry to hear of your family member's letdown.
I agree. They are just another arm of management.
@ScienceBiker so sorry. It can work. Just not often enough. ?
