While on vacation, I learned that religious propaganda is far more outrageous than I had thought. A few years back I was vacationing at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On a rainy day I stayed in and watched a little TV to pass the time. A Christian talk show popped up and I thought it might be fun to see how long it takes before they threaten your soul with eternal hellfire if you don't send money. The evangelist host then introduced a guest. He took a seat next the the evangelist and to my surprise, he announce himself as a scientist. The words "A SCIENTIST" appeared & flashed above his head, making it official. The issue of carbon dating was then brought up. The host asked if carbon dating actually worked and if it was reliable. The "scientist" then went on to explain that carbon dating only works on things that are no more than seven thousand years old. He went on to explain that no rock has even been shown to be more than seven thousand years old because they cannot be older than the moment of creation.

The thing is, I wanted to post this under the ' Silly, Random, Fun ' category. It's just that when you think about it, there is a point to where ignorance isn't funny any more.

Your thoughts?

Wow. Does not say much about Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. If you resorted to that for entertainment there, over say the Golf channel or watching flies fuck, well, I guess I can just skip Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

They fit ‘science’ into their worldview. If there IS an actual fact that threatens the cognitive dissonance required to be a ‘good believer’, it gets discarded, or worse: used to ‘prove’ god did it. (Like the example you stated above). I’d say that ‘Because god’ is the worst reason for anything, but reasoning has nothing to do with it.

Exactly. It's the equivalent of saying a wizard did it, only the very idea of a wizard is more modern.

Carbon dating is only used for organic remains, not for rocks. For rocks we use radiometric dating, which definitely shows some of them are billions of years old.

That's not what the 'scientist' said. 😀
