I'm not a fan of topless photos being used as profile avatars. (Put a shirt on please.)

That said, I feel more strongly that the human body should not be shamed, and this leads inevitably to the issue of gender. Men use topless photos but women don't... Why?

If a woman wants to learn how to perform a self examination to detect breast cancer she may find several articles on the Internet.

Written instructions are no substitute, however, for a real-time video tutorial. Search for a video tutorial on YouTube and there are none. Any that have been uploaded will be blocked and those that do exist comprise of still images of sexualised women.

On the other side of this coin is the merchandising of women's bodies. Women's breasts are sold to us in tabloid newspapers and porn.

The freedom is one way. A man can walk topless along a street but if a woman walked topless down the same street she might get arrested. This is the patriarchy taking ownership of women's bodies.

I would like to see consistency on agnostic.com, whereby women can upload topless photos of themselves to be used as their avatars - if they so wished. The way some men do.

Reclaiming the human body will give us back our full humanity instead of our nakedness being sold to us and conflated with sex and shame.

I never thought I would write a post like this, and topless photos are not something I want to see, but thinking about the double standards and the repression made me angry.

Women are human - not just sexual. It's time to end the shame.

I’m pretty sure the climate shifting will force us all into aluminum shielded suits.

That's a beautiful picture. I've always been upset about the double standard as well.

Thank you. I had a job on trying to find an image of a topless woman on the Internet that wasn't sexualised. This confirmed my thoughts about the patriarchy.

That's a beautiful painting.

There's too much emphasis on covering up.

As the climate warms, people can shed clothing to keep cool. Topless is common in hot climates, but not universal. I'm sure men will bore holes looking at first, but if every woman went topless during the hottest days, men would soon ignore that fashion as we do others.

I agree.

@Ellatynemouth Free the Nipple!

I like it. Breasts are natural. We should not treat them as obscene. Here in Colorado there are several municipalities that have passed laws that women can be toples in public.

And we should be able to post pics of women's breasts and the female breast nipple without it being a problem.

Bare boobs! Don't bear arms!

Totally agree!

Maybe you could start a trend on this site. Maybe even a group.

Ha ha! No. It's just something I was thinking about.

I've an old one that I turned into a graphic morph in my avatar. Can't see it all without clicking and no it's not my current body but was. I miss those Bs like nobody's business but they're covered up with a censor bar. IDGAF. Take me or leave me.
I do not however, have the brass ones of say a Kathy Bates in about Schmidt, LOL....

In Venice Ca, there is no law stating that women can not walk around topless. The law should be the same in all 50 states.

That's interesting. I do wonder what would happen if a man walked down a city street topless, and then a woman.

Where I live, you sometimes see topless men in the summer. But not women of course.
