Who consumes Seafood?
Do you know that the seafood industry is not sustainable?
That some predict seafood will go extinct by 2048
That 6lbs of viable tuna equals 30lbs of bycatch!!!

Which means all the other sealife caught by accident are slaughtered..tortured..cut up..stabbed and thrown overboard ..this includes Dolphins..Sharks..Whales..Seabirds..Endangered fish...and sea lions..

Ugh... cannot watch that. But it's PETA videos like that that turned me into a near-vegetarian 10-years ago. No shrimp EVER due to bycatch issue (and now even filthy shrimp-farm issues). By the time we decide to start doing something about destroying our oceans it will be too damn late. Old abandoned traps and netting will keep killing forever using today's deaths as tomorrow's bait. Humans just suck as a species, but give it a while... we'll be gone and the Earth can move forward re-evolving for what's left w/out us messing with it all.

Hello Ravenswolfcasey, I'm new to this site, still falling down rabbit holes, just thought I'd like to tell you I admire your stance on (not) fishing.

Thank you

Apart from the torture fish are put through by capture, not to mention those inadvertantly hurt, the oceans and streams are no longer the oristine places they were. Meaning whoever eats fish, eats the contaminents of the wsterwsys as well. No, I don't eat fish.

I don't eat seafood very often. But I applaud all that are trying to clean up our oceans.

I haven't touched the stuff since 1980. When I lie dying and think of all the crappy things I've done in my life, that won't be one of them.

I don't do seafood, but can eat if forced. Never my choice of restaurant. Don't like the smells of a seafood restaurant to be honest.

I catch my own fish. I don’t keep anything undersize or out of slot.

As the dominant predators and species on the planet we have gone past the point of no return due to our population size. Changing what you eat won’t change the facts. Speculative theories indicates that seafood may have spauned our evolution and brain development for tool making. I’m ok with eating seafood.

Yes indeed we are the apex predator on this planet.

Of these acts of inhumanity, the most egregious has to be Japan's annual dolphin slaughter.

And their killing of whales.

4

We treat a finite planet with infinity in everything we do. all humans are guilty of habitat loss.

Exactly

@Ravenwolfcasey it's very sad considering what we could have been as rulers and guardians of this beautiful place called earth.

@LeighShelton agree

@LeighShelton All it takes is a few greedy people at the top and all the efforts at the bottom are for naught. We have more than enough greedy ones to go around. The US President is proudly making it not only OK, but an objective to lie, cheat and steal your way to riches.

@mtnhome seems like the twats job description.

Is why I'm a vegan.

do you think nature is allowed on crops or better still in your house? I admire you for trying.

Not all seafood production has to have devasting effects on our environment. Aquaculture has come a long way and helps to provide food security with a less detrimental environmental impact. That being said not all aquaculture practices are sustainable/environmentally friendly.

I have heard of some pretty benign shrimp culture systems, and shrimp is delicious. (although not the best overall protein source)

I love seafood, always have, loved it so much I want to work on a prawn trawler. Silly me (17) assumed that all the sea life we tossed over the side would just swim away. I found out later it is so badly injured it will just die, plus the fish and sharks following just inhale them. I catch my own now, not often.

@Morganfreeman Sea life eats anything and everything organic. Japan does not have a good record, not with their whaling they undertake purely out of arrogance, they can't even force their population to eat it. They tried in school canteens.

3

So you're saying we need to improve the industry. I'm down with that.

I can't imagine with all the technology we have, this is beyond us.

2

You should read What A Fish Knows by Jonathan Balcombe. It's a really great read... It had a bunch of studies and anecdotes on fish anatomy and behavior and their social habits. It's interesting

3

I never eat seafood. I don't like it, but, even if I did, I would not eat it. My son in law is a marine biologist and does a lot of research on this.

3

I refuse to consume seafood...due to the atrocities of the fishing industry...
As well as all the contaminates from human waste and garbage
