Hello fellow Agnostics, today I am seeking your views on the idea that every thing we do, every choice we make can come from either a place connected to love ( our higher purpose ), or to our fears.
Also if that is true, what is our default decision mode if we are not clear on our own unique higher purpose? Do we default to all decisions made from a position of fear?
I think the idea is baseless. There is no reason to suspect that there is any “higher purpose,” nor that all our actions have any connections.
Humans make decisions based on a mixture of information, reason, instinct, and inference. There is no “default position.”
@SueZ "Internally constructed view of what brings meaning to the individual." I assume you mean someone's life goals? Most people will work towards them, but this wouldn't connect all their actions, as people often set goals aside to deal with other things throughout their lives.
I am still unsure of what you mean by "default position."
Choices made for any reason other than fear seem to be pretty much a luxury. We work out of fear of need. We do things to please people, mostly, though not always out of ear of displeasing them. I do many things people would consider selfless, yet I know they are not. I do them to protect things I value, out of fear they will be lost. I think it is only when we do things in spite of such fears that we can say we do for other reasons, ie thinsg one may do for a child, even though it goes against our own instincts.
