It's so frustrating when my family is very religious and won't even support me in me trying to get help with a therapist instead of going to church they think that's the answer to everything ?

Thanks for the support I will definitely keep the advice in mind

My family doctor treated my depression, since it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. There are many groups that are out there to help you. It is not as good as family, but it helps.

It’s because they are close minded. Little do they understand that “church” doesn’t work for everyone.

Mental illness like depression isn't that much different from physical illnesses. For some reason if your stomach or arm isn't working right it's OK to get professional help, but if it happens to be the body part known as the brain that's not working right, you are expected to cure yourself or just pray about it. That just makes no sense.

Tell'em god told you to go to therapy.

What kind of support are you looking for? Whatever it is, you can get it elsewhere.

Go to the therapist without involving your family.
They are so caught up in believing that a supernatural being will answer all their problems and desires that they cannot see the real needs of everyday life.
Don't be frustrated...the only behavior that you can change is your own. Try to have compassion for them. They are trapped in their beliefs.
Take care of yourself...be fierce.

That frustrates me so much when religious people do that. Counseling is probably the best thing anyone can do for their mental health. And if that alone doesn't work adding medications may be the way to go as there can me an actual medically documented reason for this that can be treated by such things! (Gasp) No wonder we have such a stigma around mental health! The first time I sought help for my depression, I was terrified. I didn't have a judgmental family I just chose to suffer in silence and pretend everything was ok. So, I can only imagine what it's like when people who should care think you're doing it all wrong. Needless to say, this is one of my many pet peeves of most organized religions.

I'm so sorry That's happening. Stick with your therapist, they're more likely to help you in effective ways.

Think of it this way. You are the next step in your families evolution.

...and I apologize if that sounds cold but holds true for those who become free of religion.

Same here... "Pray about it" is my family's answer to everything 😟

Dear God please deliver my family from Jesus ?
