Would you ever let your child experience the cuteness of holiday characters like Santa or the Easter Bunny?
I like to think that I would, mainly because it totally fucks over christian shit. Santa is based on the Odin myth, where he would come and give good kids treats and kill the bad ones. The rabbit is based on pagan fertility, which bunnies are because, well, they fuck like it. So the question is there.
I told my kids early on about the Green Man, a Pagan precursor to Santa Claus, St. Nicholaus, the Turkish patron saint of thieves and prostitutes, and let them explain to me what they think the relationship between the Easter Bunny is to eggs. Start 'em young & try to keep it fun.
My kids liked Santa. The bunny always creeped them out, but they liked the candy. When my daughter was about 5, driving home, she asked me "Daddy, Will Santa ever die?" I told her no , Santa is a legend , and legends never die. Short pause. "What about Mrs. Santa?" No, she's a legend too. Short pause. "What about the reindeer?" Me: Hey, how about some French fries? ?
