Many Republican lawmakers were unaware of the provision since they failed to read the bill prior to passing it. Religious organizations are fuming mad.
I for one thing this is actually a step in the right direction and proabbly the one thing I like that Trump has done.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometime.......
Present the government with an opportunity to levy taxes and you can bet they will.
Not really. In this case it has always been written into the tax code that churches in teh U.S. are only tax exempt as long as they stay out of politics. That tax provision has never been enforced in tha past.
Also, a large part of taxes and fees imposed on workign people are due to all the tax cuts for the rich the repbulicans keep passing. It goes liek this, the federal government pased tax cuts, so they have less money, and so they cut funds that go to states and local governments. Now state and local governments have less money, so they raise fees and taxes locally to make up the difference. So, working peopel experience higher sales taxes, higher utility taxes, higher DMV fees and higher state college tuition, and yes they nickle and dime you to a point where working peopel end up paying for almost all of the tax cuts for th erich. The "trickle down" con is all about reassigning the tax burden form the rich to working people, and doing it in such a way that few actually realize what is going on.
“The whole idea of tax exemption for nonprofit organizations that are doing charitable, religious and educational work is... to incentivize the good work they do to make our society better."
Well, that's a massive assumption, isn't it? Whether they're doing "good" work is a subjective judgment. That's been the problem all along with the tax-exempt status. I don't agree that churches agitating to outlaw choice and de-fund Planned Parenthood, for example, are making our society better. I feel as if they ought to pay taxes like any other special interest group.
Churches and religions should NOT be tax exempt. It's ridiculous that they are.
FFRF has sued twice and won a suite to remove the tax deduction for minister's housing allowance. All are fuming including Jews and Unitarians. This will be even better and it may break the tRump/Evilgelical connections. Without that this moron would be gone. He seems to love to piss of everybody and is too stupid to see the end results.
God will be very upset, lighting bolt will come down from the heavens to strick politicans dead.
Actually that would be like hitting two birds with one stone, a good thing.
Wow, that is going to hurt some good non profits, but glad it is going to shake up the churches.
