So many to choose from. Yahtzee, Scrabble, Boggle, Rummikub, Monopoly, Life, Sorry, Battleship, Trivial Pursuit, Fact or Crap, Stratego, Sequence, Othello, Scategories, Kings in the Corner, Clue, Risk, Backgammon, Mancala, Parcheesi, Chess and Checkers, and Mille Bornes to name a few I've played. I have played some new ones as well which are interesting too. My least favorite is Monopoly. Most favorite are word games and trivia.
Do you have a favorite?
Scrabble-I'm a killer at it.
Does Words with Friends count? I don't have a Scrabble board. I need to get it again. I loved playing it as a child.
I like backgammon, scrabble, Yahtzee. Same here, don't care much for Monopoly. Used to like Chess but haven't done that one in years. Too bad they can't set up something on here for people to play games with each other or card games even. That would be fun.
@mistymoon77 oohhh good call! What say you @Admin ?
Yes, it probably would be a bit of a challenge to do something like that.. was just a thought.. not like we need a ton of games to choose from.. start out with a few.. see how it goes.
Backgammon the king of mean gambling!!
Monopoly is good fun and we used to set up alternate rules like all properties had to go for auction when landed upon. Either by sealed bid or open. I used to play chess at a high level but it was too demanding. Cranium is a good compilation of games if your looking for family fun. I am a damn good backgammon player too. for those looking for a game may I recommend " Backgammon masters " a gambling site it but with a good play money side to it.
I'm almost unbeatable at RISK, and I'm happy to qualify that with any challenges!!
Backgammon is one of the meanest gambling games ever invented, and I'm pretty good at that too.
The most challenging I've played is based on Star Trek - Amarillo Design Bureau's Star Fleet Battles - very strong complex tactical game
My favorite party game is fishbowl. Best with six or more people. Everyone writes an equal number of common things -- celebrities, movies, books, places, stuff like that -- on slips of paper. They all get thrown into a fishbowl. Then you break up into teams, alternating seats. Everyone has sixty-second long turns.
First round, it's Taboo -- you can say anything but the word on the slip to get a teammate to say what's on it. Tally up the points until the fishbowl is empty.
Then put all the slips back in the fishbowl and now it's round two: ONE WORD. You only get to say one word to prompt your teammates to say what you just heard. Again, go around until the fishbowl is empty.
Last round: Charades.
Great fun, especially when the clues become sexual.
I can't believe nobody mentioned Traveller... it was a pen and paper game ala dungeon and dragons but in the future, pure science fiction.
I love Scategories! I was very good with the clay one. I want to learn Backgammon and chess. I mean, I know how to move the chess pieces, but I want to get better at the strategies.
Boggle is also awesome too.
Do card games count? I loved playing Solitaire. I was a weird child.
Actually have a few...
Dark Tower, Axis and Allies, Fortress America, RISK, Titan, Trivial Pursuit: Lord of the Rings and Star Wars editions, Hero Quest, and Mille Borne (card game).
For a few years I used to go to an annual board game convention where the main focus is "Eurogames," which are games that have come out in the last decade or so that are beautifully designed, based on strategy, not luck, and had a specific theme built into the gameplay. They're a lot of fun, BUT when you're learning a new one it can take a couple of hours just to get through one game! I haven't played in awhile, but my favorites were Ticket to Ride (pretty easy, great for families), Dominion, Last Night on Earth, and Power Grid. Also enjoy strategy based card games like Fluxx, Killer Bunnies, and Munchkin. I miss that convention, it was a really cool day where you just sat with random strangers and learned how to play a game... like being an extra on the set of Big Bang Theory. Nerds rule. <3
I used to play tactical and operational warfare board games. Believe it or not I threw away more than 30 games one time I moved to my wife delight. Hundreds and hundreds of units to move. The companies no longer around. Gamers Workshop, Avalon Hill. Including the grand daddy of all "Tactics", 2 countries Big Blue against Great Red. included nuclear option. But Panzer Leader was my favorite. Also liked Midway because you have to search the enemy carrier group around from your carrier. In War in the Pacific. I always chose the Japan nation. Why? Because the game start with Pearl Harbor and there was a roll of dice that may caught the carriers on the harbor instead of on exercises at sea as the real life. Now the kicker is if you invade Hawaii you capture the islands and the USA can not survive without Pearl Harbor naval base. It is the major flaw of Japan in real life and in the game. You could wipe USA in 6 months. After that you as Japan gonna be in trouble because the industrial might take over but... Always loved to see those faces as everything crumbled. The key was invading Hawaii. You could dispose of everything else because of the distance and need of refuel. Great Memories pre PC times.
I used to play 'Berlin 85' Avalon Hill - those AH games were the king of strategy and tactics.
@RobCampbell And you know that. I threw all away not a single one left and now that I have the freedom and no kids or pets to lay it out in the table and play and replay those games... and I don't have them... piss the hell out of me.
@GipsyOfNewSpain - I would play AH games or Star Fleet Battles on occasion since I have too much spare time anyway. Problem is I don't know where to find opponents! So I end up playing computer games that are too easy to beat.
@RobCampbell Maybe once I am in Vegas... we may be ever to meet then. My son can go dancing in LA. I will try to search for AH games to purchase because I really liked the roll of the dice. The reading of the rules... the capabilities of every unit... the zone of control dealio. All units in front of you for you to move. WW2, Arab-Israeli wars, The end of the Cold War because US and USSR went at it over a West Germany Invasion. Never did civil war... not really know why since I knew it had to be interesting. Lost art.
@GipsyOfNewSpain - I still play one of the better computer strategy games that came out over a decade ago - its turned based and full of surprises for the new player, the computer opponents can be quite challenging in this game: Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri - you might find it enjoyable and you can get it cheap on ebay (it will run on current Windows OS as well).
@RobCampbell I did played alpha centauri... wasn't one of the characters jus osama binladen?
@GipsyOfNewSpain - No but there is a character that kinda resembles him in what is called the 'Peacekeeper' faction. Brother Lal or something like that, second only to the Believers faction in getting destroyed first LOL!!
@RobCampbell Yeah that's him... his picture was bin laden before bin laden was a household name. I was wondering what faction I always took... and then I remember... of course it has to be Colonel Corazon Santiago (my homegirl). Great game... the future of mankind. Well made for that era.
Uno Attack is a fun one we play when visiting my mom and her husband. (Is it still considered a board game if there's no actual board?) Cards Against Humanity is fun to play with friends. I've been playing Words With Friends, a digital version of Scrabble, for years. I have fond memories of playing Yahtzee and Boggle with my Grandma and other family members when we vacationed at a lake cabin.
I'm not really into board games, but I'm into on-line games in general. If you are interested, I can recommend it best free slot games. If you like board games you should like this too. Try your luck it's free and does not require registration
