I was in my first year of HS when he was assassinated. The history teacher, with profound grief informed us.

Was a student working my way through college. When I first heard that he had been shot, was in the dishroom of the boys cafeteria loading dishes into the conveyor belt of the dish machine. 6 of us could wash the dishes of 400 students.. The saying I attribute to him was "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

I was 15 when he ran and was elected. At the time I thought he was a good man and went door to door handing out flyers and got folks to vote for him. Then, stayed up half the night watching the election results all excited when it looked like he was winning. When he was killed I was a little older and wiser........in a different way. I was working in Springfield, Il. and happened to be stoned in my hotel room when the old desk clerk called on the hotel phone and told me the president was shot dead. I didn't take ir so bad, in fact probably didn't care too much. I read lots of books on the subject and not sure what to believe. MalcolmX summed it up be saying, "The chickens have come home to roost".

I was born during LBJ , but I liked what he had to say about putting your nation's responsibilities "BEFORE" your personal faith . What happened to that !?

Of course. Kennedy was thought of as a great president and loved by many. However, years later things got out that were scary and I realized his assassination might have been a good thing. One thing he is credited for is the Cuban missile crises. What most people don't know is that we put missiles in Turkey which is why the USSR put them in Cuba. In return for removing the missiles from Cuba the U.S. removed them from Turkey. The usual spin made him a hero when he wasn't. He would have a very hard time today with all his womanizing. Unfortunately, his brother was even worse. When we put people on a pedestal it is hard to see the truth.

Don't think I agree with you that the assassination of an American president can ever be a "good" thing. There have been many whose policies I disagreed with, sometimes vehemently, yet I never figured killing them was the way to go. Not even with the current idiot.

@phxbillcee True enough. What I have learned about these brothers stirred up my ire about them. The problem is which is better if some people stay on and destroy their country or get assassinated and become martyrs. Some leaders, Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini needed to be assassinated in order to save millions of people. Kennedy was assassinated and became a martyr but it is only speculation what this country would look like if they had stayed on.

I was at home about 13 y.o and my brother came rushing in the door shouting, "Kennedys been shot!" and "turn on the television now!" It was awful and it played all day adn somehow we were stuck to the screen .

I joined the Navy in part because of PT 109. ...Caroline lives but I know zero about JFK grandchildren maybe John John sowed his wild oats ? We all could learn from PROFILES IN COURAGE mostly ghost written with some JFK gems

I did not read 100 words from GEORGE Magazine by John John

I do - he was great! I believe LBJ was behind his murder.

I also believe Trump is the best president since JFK.

That makes no sense. Liking the presidencies of both JFK and DJT is like saying Little Caesars and Pop Tarts are the best pizzas.

Yikes...both JFK and Trump-all about the pussy and not much more.

@fantasticalice that might be the most clueless thing ive read on this site
