Last I checked United Auto Workers do not play sexist games and each craft makes no pay changes based upon gender. ...base hourly wage is identical then increases upon seniority. ...production bonuses apply to measured efficiency and attendance again= seniority. ...HR departments and keeping pay secrets are evil
Until we are all willing to share our salary information with our coworkers, we may never know what is really going on. In my industry I suspect this is not a real thing. But I can't speak for all industries. I have worked in a couple of industries where it might indeed be true, but in those cases, the corporate leaders we're stingy with titles based on gender as well, without regard to the work being performed.
I will never understand why people keep trying to justify the gender pay gap. I'm thankful that I do work for a company where we all know how much we make. And, regardless of gender, we all make the same amount for my position. We all get the same quarterly bonus. And, we all get the same raise each year. Anything else is ridiculous in my opinion.
@Akfishlady worse are the Phyllis Schafly types who insist women do not deserve equal pay because women should stay home with children then less time on jobs means less pay regardless of proven higher women's abilities and worth to the workplace community
