Just stumbled upon this post and thought I'd jump in. So, I heard about the Consumer Electronics Show banning a sex toy for women, but giving an award to one for men. Talk about a double standard, right? In my opinion, it's important to be fair and inclusive when it comes to this stuff. We all have different preferences and needs, so we should respect and acknowledge that . By the way, have any of you checked out the silicone sex dolls from [ovdoll.com]? They've got a whole range of options for both men and women.
Interesting issue with a lot of good comments and information. Perhaps, this is another of those male dominated industries that need to be shown for what they are to change. I wonder how many women are on the committee?
I'm thinking of Islam and FGM. They fear (I think) female sexual pleasure. And America seems to fear female sexual gratification without a man. I fear it too, wondering where it will lead to, but it fits in well in a world where unilateral pleasure is becoming the norm. But the hypocrisy is galling and seems similar to me to the backward way Muslims think about women and sex.
FGM is not an Islamic practice. It is practiced almost exclusively in some African countries, some of whom purport Christian values. It is a cultural practice outdating both Christianity and Islam and is intended to reduce female sexual pleasure which is in turn intended to increase fidelity. Not sure how.
Typical double standard BS, but no surprise....
I have a hugely sexist joke I could make that I think is actually pretty funny but no way am I gonna say it and have everyone take it the wrong way. I'll just agree that I think this is a really stupid decision for the CE Show to have made.
They are afraid that if this is encouraged no women will have any need of men but only sometimes harvest their sperm.
And that would be different from now, how?
@AnneWimsey Does opening pickle jars count for nothing?
@CallMeDave also killing those things with a billion legs in the tub!
@CallMeDave Not when there are women around with muscles.
@Jolanta if those leggy things show up, I am NOT around! Displaying speed like I haven't for years, lol!
I don't see the actual reason for revoking the award.
In the article it says: Entries deemed by CTA in their sole discretion to be immoral, obscene, indecent, profane or not in keeping with CTA's image will be disqualified. CTA reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry at any time which, in CTA's opinion, endangers the safety or well being of any person, or fails to comply with these Official Rules.
Yes, I read that but it is detailing the reasons why some entries might be disqualified. It is not saying what reason they have for disqualifying this particular entry.
@VictoriaNotes If they deem the device to be immoral, the mind boggles at the hypocrisy. If it isn't eligible for the Robotics and Drones category, surely they had to say why. Or is the onus on the business to appeal a decision which hasn't been articulated?
@VictoriaNotes I had to look up wearables. Here's the meaning if anyone is interested:
Wearable technology (also called wearable gadgets) is a category of technology devices that can be worn by a consumer and often include tracking information related to health and fitness. Other wearable tech gadgets include devices that have small motion sensors to take photos and sync with your mobile devices.
Examples of wearable tech include:
CommBadge: a wearable Bluetooth personal communicator for iPhone and Android.
Google Goggles: a downloadable image recognition application created by Google, used for searches based on images taken by handheld devices.
I feel sure that these devices are not good for people in the long run because they allow separation where nature demands unity, but the hypocrisy of the CES defies belief.
@VictoriaNotes I think the result of the Western trend toward unilateral pleasure can be seen, where sex is concerned, in the low rate of childbirth. I also think masturbation within relationships (along with porn) not only reduces the need for sex relations but corrupts relations between men and women. Perhaps if biochemical reward for sexual relations is so very natural, we shouldn’t try to fool that driving force in return by thwarting its objective.
