I hadn't really thought about this until another post brought it to light.
My first name is Ian, Scottish for John who wrote a gospel and is also a saint
My second name is Patrick, patron saint of Ireland.
My third name is Declan, another Irish saint
And my surname starts with GOD
Any advances?
Ha, ha!
But I suppose most western names come from some religion or the other. Even the seemingly innocuous name "Kevin" comes from a 6th century Irish hermit named St. Kevin, who founded a monastary. Perhaps parents believe the name will give their children the same powers as the person with the original name.
I was still a believer when I made up the name for my daughter, Jerielle. The first half of her name is from Hebrew, and the second is from French. The first part of her name, in English, means "strong; open-minded, and is a blend of Jerold and Darell. But the Hebrew meaning is "vision of god." The "elle" only makes the name feminine.
My birth name is very serial killer....very....like, what the hell, mom?
Here's Johnny!
@Rudy1962 Let's just say, if you see my birth name, you wonder if I'm wearing clown make-up...haha
I also have names of Gaelic orgination. My middle name is also conflated with John. It is not John, Nor does its meaning coincide with the meaning in Aramaic of John. Check your head, you have been conned by the Angles again. Take it for what you will. My cognomen is the anglish bastardization of the title of the last king of Erie, 3rd century CE. Fuck the anglish and their bloody jesus.
Both my middle and first names are from the bible. I actually never really think about it.
I don't think leigh is
Nope. Leigh is an old English name meaning "meadow"
thank you so much
Also my Dad was born in 1925. His first name was Joseph. Every boys first name was Joseph. The only place he was known as Joe was in the military. He actually went by his third name with two initials in front of it. "Rodolphe". I think his Mum might have liked Valentino?
Not I...
My middle name is Carlene, so a derivative of yours.
@Donotbelieve me too totes non religious..
@HippieChick58 I sing the song Jolene..using Charlene..and Carlene would work too..
Angelina Eunice for crying out loud. Could have been worse. I was nearly Daisy Jewel.
When I had my girls I was looking for strong classic names, and not named after any immediate family members. Apparently several of my cousins had the same idea because some of the cousins used the same names about that time as well. I have Sarah, Michelle, Rebecca; which are all really biblical. My name is Paula, so feminized of the Apostle Paul, the miscogynist of the century. However I was a shortened version of Pauline, or Paulina who were my grandmother and great aunt.
My full birth name means "Defender of men from the royal field" and is NOT from the Bible
My name is Joseph, which is Hebrew for "God will increase". I like the sound of the name, and do my best not to think about its meaning. Most of the time, I manage.
