Nearly three-quarters of Americans say the situation at the border with Mexico is a crisis (74%), up from less than half who felt that way in January (45%), according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.
Here are the other key takeaways from the poll:
The steep increase comes most sharply among Democrats, though there are increases across party lines:
Back in January, just 23% of Democrats called it a crisis as President Trump took that line in an effort to build support for funding to build a wall along the border. Now, 70% see it as a crisis.
Among independents, the share who see a crisis has climbed from 47% to 72%
Among Republicans, itβs up 11 points to 82%.
Of course it's a crisis, it's been building since sessions put in measures that are inhumane and violate, if we were at war, acts of the Geneva Convention. It is an engineered crisis. It is feeding the coffers of the corporations running the prisons, paid for with tax payer dollars. It is meant to feed trump's base. It is NOT illegal to seek asylum in America, it is misdemeanor to cross illegally - when was the last time anyone was put in jail for jaywalking (a misdemeanor)?
The government is violating it's own rules by holding these people much longer than the LAW says it can/should.
The answer to this crisis is very simple - listen up those of you in the cheap seats - setup a processing area with judges, clerks and lawyers to process everyone in a rapid manner. There would be no crisis and it would cost so much less but there is no over sight for how our tax dollars are spent.
CALL your representatives and demand my solution be implemented. CALL now, call often demand our government follow it's own rules.
It's terrible what's happening at the border, but some people are seeing the light. I wish they would hurry up impeach president dumb ass.
@Bobby9 He could use the National guard and Fema who have experience in emergency management and disaster relief...make some use of that executive order he is so fond of...
@Bobby9 So how was he able to order the National Guard to the border in February 2019? Seems he picks and choose depending on if it appeals to his base or not... Everyone knows this is an ongoing problem, but it is the attitude of this administration that is creating the attitude and horrific treatment of the people.
@Bobby9 I am fully aware that governors of states can refuse to activate or offer the national guard of their state. In this situation, a humanitarian cause would more than likely not be opposed by California and the five other states that withdrew their support. It would be similar to the national guard being used to help hurricane victims.

@Bobby9 BUT unless you have hearings to determine thus our government chooses paid corporations to house them. When it is determined their claim is not legal they are sent back. Simple solution get them thru the system instead of cruel treatment.
@silverotter11 I have no problem with them being returned if they are not deemed to be eligible for asylum...but if we are to proceed by law, they have to determine that and not treat them like dogs before that...just as we have to treat our own prisoners before they go to trial...humans need to be treated as humans even if they are the most vile...even our own people were treated better by the Taliban...
@Bobby9 seriously? How many people were displaced and without shelter during our hurricanes? How many temporary shelters/tents and places of shelter were opened up? School is not in session now...they could use the schools, the empty warehouses... have you ever seen a military set up camp in the middle of nowhere? Entire "cities" are erected nearly overnight, so you argument holds no water to this military child...I lived in a quonset as a child that was in place to house families within a few days...
@Bobby9 They are failing miserably in their responsibility...the federal government doesn't seem to ask permission on a lot of other issues, but they get a pass on immigration...I mean, starting a war without congress is ok, but commandeering a few schools is not...they learned their lessons from the tent cities...more fans, air conditioning...where are the kids going to wander off to? Sounds like a lot of excuses for NOT doing something rather than brainstorming for ways to solve the problem...bet those excuses would not hold water if those people detained were members of Congress and their families being detained. And, isn't that what we are doing? Thinking through and blasting through with ideas instead of just whining about it? Instead, seems that what would work isn't because they don't want it to work...
@Bobby9 yes...but his answer seems to be to declare a national emergency to override spending when it is something he wants, ie. his wall...but not for taking care of children...he is selective to the detriment of people that he does not like...
@Bobby9 News flash, the numbers are NOT up. What our government did via Sessions was close most ports of entry funneling them to certain areas and ASSURING there would be more illegal crossing because of the closed ports of entry. All the while NOT upping the number of judges, clerks, etc. to handle the influx at the open ports. It is a crisis created by this administration, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing back when Sessions was AG.
@Bobby9, @thinktwice This is a crisis created by this administration. the numbers are NOT up. What our government did via Sessions was close most ports of entry funneling them to certain areas and ASSURING there would be more illegal crossings (which is a misdeamor, like jaywalking) because of the closed ports of entry. All the while NOT upping the number of judges, clerks, etc. to handle the influx at the open ports. It is a crisis created by this administration, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing back when Sessions was AG. there is a solution up the number of judges, clerk, etc. to process these people. Stats show 99% percent seeking asylum show up for their hearings. Those who do not have a legit reason are held and returned. The other thing Sessions did was further restrick just what can be claimed as a reason for seeking asylum. This is all been ginned up by this admin to get money to build a wall most American do not want and all studies have shown will not be effective. It is about racism and if you think this admin won't come for you think again.
